Pinterest inspired cards September 16, 2015 08:00

Hello Just Nick friends!  It's Jaclyn here today to share with you a couple of cards I made inspired by two very different, yet inspiring images I found on pinterest!

Aside from scrapbooking and papercrafting, I also claim cookie decorating as one of my most enjoyed hobbies.  Therefore, I'm often perusing pinterest for creative images and ideas for my next baking project.  I ran across this beautiful array of rainbow colored butterfly cookies on pinterest and fell in love!  I knew this particular cookie design was way beyond my skill set, but since it looked just like the watercolor designs we're often seeing in cardmaking, I saved it.  I just knew it would be the perfect inspiration piece for my next card design.

Ali Bee's Bake Shop: From the vault: Colorful Butterflies:

There was no question that I would use the Butterfly Background cut file, as a starting point for my card.  I ended up sizing the file to 4"x5" and cutting it from Tim Holtz watercolor paper, knowing that I'd want to do a watercolor treatment, as inspired by the original image.  I used a water pen and a stack of my favorite ink pads to create a gradient rainbow effect, from the bottom to the top of my butterfly cut.

Once cut and watercolored, the butterfly piece makes a bold statement all on it's own.  Therefore, I knew I'd want to keep the rest of the card pretty sleek and simple to let the butterflies shine.  I used a white background and added some subtle details including machine stitching and a scattering of bling, again, all in white, to keep the focus on the butterflies.  A bold, black, stamped sentiment ties in the theme of the card and draws your focus to the center.

My next inspiration piece was one I discovered as I was searching for wedding themed inspiration.  My cousin will be married next month, and since I can't attend the wedding, I wanted to make an extra special card to send along with her gift.  This papercrafted boutineire caught my eye immediately and brought to mind the Stems for Stephanie cut file in the Just Nick shop.

Accessorize your significant other on your #wedding day with a custom boutonniere. #DIY:

I significantly sized down and cut the Stems for Stephanie florals from a bookprint paper, as inspired by the pinterest image. Layering the florals and topping them each with decorative button centers, make them the star of the card design.

The Stems leaf file is a perfect match to these pretty flowers, too.  I cut the leaves out of varying green papers and tucked them under the edges of the floral cluster.

Finally, I looked to the Card Sentiments 1 cut file for the perfect congratulatory greeting.  Cutting the sentiment from gold glittery paper finishes off the sophisticated and elegant feel of this design.

The next time you're stuck for inspiration, pinterest is a good place to start and the Just Nick cut file store is sure to have the perfect design to match your inspiration piece!
