Spring and Fall always have me wanting to get crafty, and I will pick up things at Target for the season to alter, even if I don't know yet what I will do with it. This was one of those times as I saw this paper mache egg and thought how fun it would be to do something with. I saw JustNick came out with this new Basic Butterfly cut file for this week and knew it would be perfect with my egg.
Having the butterflies focused around the middle of the egg reminded me of the beautiful faberge eggs. I picked spring pattern papers to cut several of the solid butterflies. And for the detailed butterfly, I cut from plain white cardstock. I backed the detailed butterfly with vellum in the center of the wings, and then added pattern paper to the outside of the wings and the body. I layered and adhered this to the solid butterflies under it. Then finished it with Tonic Nuvo Drops.
I layered three of the solid butterflies on either side with pattern paper using foam adhesive. I made pom poms in white yarn with the Clover pom pom maker to add texture to the body of the butterflies.
To finish, I added more of the Tonic Nuvo drops to the egg itself. Maybe it isn't a faberge egg, but I love how this looks on the mantle.
