You Wonderful Thing - Cathy Martin June 16, 2018 07:00

Hi everyone!  It's June, can you believe it?  I know some kids are already out of school, but here we still have a little ways to go, but that doesn't mean I can't break out all the fun summer colors for a layout!  For this one I decided to use the Love Background file.  I cut it from a phrase patterned paper and then backed the hearts with various patterns.  I also put some yellow ink on my background to make my cut file pop!  I grabbed a ton of different washi tapes and created a border for my layout that helped ground the layout but also give it a ton of pop and pattern!  There was already so much going on that I didn't have to do much in the way of embellishing.  I love the little metal "love" paper clip tucked into the cut file as well.  Just a little extra something to add a fun element!  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have an awesome day!

Happy Girl - Cathy Martin May 25, 2018 08:13

Hi everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm back with another layout!  So on my last blog post I used the Funky Floral Background and I cut it out of white card stock and created a stencil with it.  Now since I used white card stock I didn't want to throw away the floral background, so I kept it, and this week I'm using it as my background file for my layout!

Since it was already sprayed in a rainbow of fun shimmery colors I didn't have too much work to do.  I simply popped it up on foam and picked a funky watercolor inspired striped background.  Since my last layout featured my daughter and I, I used a photo of my husband and daughter this time.  I like the juxtaposition of using the same cut file twice to create layouts with different main subjects.   Of course since there were so many bright fun colors being used it was easy to embellish the layout, and I had no issue using whatever icons I wanted!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look, and I hope I've inspired your creativity.  As always, have an awesome day!

Let's Celebrate Mothers - Cathy Martin May 12, 2018 07:00

While I find it easy to take selfies, I find it can be a bit trickier to get a good picture of me with one of my little rugrats, so when I do get a chance I take what I can get!  As much as I love documenting my children's moments, as well as my own, it always makes me smile when I can scrap a picture with us together.  I want them to remember me, and it's important for us moms to sometimes get out from behind the camera and get in those pictures too!

For my layout I decided to cut out the Funky Floral Background cut file.  I cut it out of white cardstock because I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do with it, but after it was all cut out I decided to use it as a stencil.  This is another favorite technique and since I cut it with white paper I can still use the cut file on another layout!  I sprayed over it with several different color mists, creating a bit of a rainbow effect.  I'm not much of a rainbow girl, but I was soooooo happy with the end result.  In order to showcase as much of the background as possible I used a large acetate sheet as my title so that you can still see behind it!  For having no ideas when I started I am thrilled with the result!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look-see today!

2 Girls & 2 Trikes | Cathy Martin April 28, 2018 08:00

Hi everyone!  I'm excited to be back with another layout for JustNick and this layout is very special to me because it's the first one I have done using pictures from my childhood of my sister and I.  The picture isn't very good quality, since it's a scan from an original photo from the 80's.  Now because the picture isn't the best quality, I had to keep it small, so I needed a big, fun, bold background to take up the rest of the space!  I ended up choosing the Sunburst Circle background cut file, because it reminded me of bicycle tires.  Since the picture was so vintage I decided to go full on vintage with my paper choices and embellishments.  I absolutely adore the final layout, and I hope you like it too!  Thank you so much for stopping by!

Hoppy Easter - Cathy Martin March 28, 2018 08:00

Hey everyone!  March is winding down and with Easter only a few days away I thought I would share a hoppy layout with you.  Whenever I make a layout about Easter I always think of fun colours and florals, so I really wanted to incorporate lots of fun patterns in my page.  I used the Half Shell Background 2 and cut it out of white cardstock.  It just screamed EGGS to me!  I'm not even sure if the cut file is supposed to be eggs, but I thought it was a perfect fit, and it had lots of spaces for me to back with lovely papers.  I used a combination of papers and products from Paige Evans Turn the Page as well as lots of stuff from my stash.

You Make My Heart Smile - Cathy Martin February 25, 2018 07:00

Hey all, it's Cathy and I'm back with another layout to share with you!  This time I decided to use a cut file as a mask and use some spray mist to spray over it.  This isn't really a new or different technique, but it's one that I've used several times before and I love the end results.

So for my layout I used the You Make My Heart Smile cut file.  This file actually comes with several different phrases and I cut 3 of them out, though I only used 2 for my page, but I just tucked the other one aside for another time!  I used a spare piece of cardstock that I had laying around, since I wasn't worried about keeping the file after I had sprayed it, though you could cut if from white cardstock and then keep the altered file for another project, kind of a two for one deal!

Since my spray title took up one side of my layout I used a bunch of patterned paper strips to fill the other side.  I dug into my stash and scraps and used up some older papers that I had been wanting to use for a while.  This was a great way to really use up lots of papers that are just laying around. I didn't need much in the way of embellishments since the title and papers were already so bold!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look, and don't forget to check out the shop for lots of amazing designs!

Tug At My Heart - Cat Martin February 16, 2018 15:45

It's a week of love here on the JustNick blog, and I'm definitely feeling it!  I really wanted to use some older products along with some new products to finally scrap some photos that I have been setting aside for quite awhile!  I used the very cute Heart Strings background cut file, as it was the perfect one for tucking photos in!

I didn't cut it very large, because I wanted to have some room for embellishments, but since I cut it out of navy blue paper it still stands out, and it matches well with the Main Squeeze collection from Crate Paper!  I love how this layout turned out.  It's a Valentines Day layout that is slightly different than usual layouts!

Thank you so much for stopping by, and have an awesome day!

Love Love Love - Cathy Martin January 12, 2018 07:00

Hey everyone!!!  It's my first layout and blog post for 2018 for JustNick!  I swear, she's going to have to kick me to the curb to get me to leave!  Where I live, it's cold, the wind hurts my face, and there is slush and snow everywhere, so I decided I needed to channel a little sunshine into my page!

I used the Loads of Love cut file, and I cut it out of a pinky-peach ombre paper.  I was originally going to cut it out of white cardstock, but decided to use up some of the neglected  solid papers in my stash.  At this point I had no clue where I was going with it, only that I knew I wanted to put a picture in the largest O.  I used a SnapChat pic of my daughter and I, since I needed a small one, and the quality of the photo wasn't the greatest, so it was better to keep it small.  I then chose various fun patterned papers from my paper scraps stash.  I always love stash busting with Nicole's cut files!

I wasn't sure what background paper to use, but in the end I couldn't resist using the bright and friendly clouds!  My daughter also helped influence my background paper choice.  I only did a minimal amount of embellishing, since the page was already brimming with fun!  I am so happy with how seriously cute this page turned out!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have an awesome day!

Let it Snow - Cathy Martin December 27, 2017 07:00

Hey everybody!  It's Cathy here and I'm back with a layout inspired by a winter scene.  I used the Frosted Windowpane cut file and created a layout about the lovely calmness of a winter morning.  This cut file is just lovely and I cut it out of white cardstock.  I decided to just back it with one colour of paper, but it could be backed with a multitude of papers as well to create an amazing ombre effect!

Since this cut file goes in the corner of a layout it was easy to figure out how to design my page! I just cut another paper on a diagonal and placed it in the opposite corner.  I also cut out a paper frame to encase my entire layout.  Overall I love the fun and whimsical scene created using this file along with embellishments that emphasized my theme!  Thank you so much for stopping by!

14 Days of Giveaways - Day 7 - Cathy Martin December 07, 2017 07:05 2 Comments

Hi everyone I'm up on the blog today and I'm using this gorgeous Joyful cut file!  Just for today you can get this cut file for free by using the code JOYFREE2  This really is a very lovely cut file, and even though it's part of Nicole's Christmas giveaway I decided to use it for a slightly different layout.  I used it for a winter layout, with a picture that was taken at the end of January.  Even the word Joy can be versatile, and if there is something that I cannot say enough about Nicole's cut files it is that they can be used in soooooo many ways!

For my layout I used a combination of products from the Snow and Cocoa collection as well as the Turn the Page collection.  It might seem like a bit of a strange pairing but there were some overlapping color schemes that helped me bring in more colors than just pink and teal.  I used the offset feature in Silhouette Studio to create an outline for the cut file.  I then used patterned paper to cut out the outline and white paper for the middle.  Propping it all up with foam gave just the right amount of dimension and interest!  I am so happy with the simplicity and sense of wonder and joy that comes across through all the elements.

Thank you for joining me today and I hope you go and grab your free cut file, and don't forget to stop by each day for the next 7 days for more cut files and inspiration!

Small Joys - Cathy Martin November 20, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!  It's Cathy here and I'm up on the Just Nick blog today with a layout about being grateful for the small joys in life.  Sometimes when everything is getting overwhelming it's nice to take a step back and think about all the small simple things that can be enjoyed.  Whether it's the crisp smell of the cool air, laying down in a beautiful pile of leaves, or wrapping up in your favorite cozy sweater, these little things that sometimes seem so silly can be a huge help in keeping you grounded.

For my layout I chose the Leaf Circle Background cut file.  I loved how it could be interpreted as a leaf, or a petal, or even a feather.  I cut it out of teal cardstock just for a bit of a change-up from my usual white cardstock.  I backed it with paper starting from the center ring and going outwards. so that it was the same paper on each ring all the way around.  I used a mixture of old and new papers to back the cut file and then it was time to decide what to do for a background paper.  Originally I wanted to use a patterned paper, but after trying to decide for over an hour I gave up.  I ended up finding this dark wood grain and I really liked how it paired well with the dark colors in the photo.  To add a little extra detail I painted tiny white dots in acrylic paint around the outer perimeter of the cut file.

For embellishing I primarily used products from the Turn The Page collection.  It paired well with the colors I was using and many of the phrases were perfect for the mood I was trying to set.  I also used some wood veneers to add an earthiness to the layout and I found some older burlap embellishments from the Craft Market collection from Crate Paper to top it off.  I added some Heidi Swapp color shine in two different pinks to break up the large space between clusters.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look at my project today!  I think it's important for us as memory keepers to not only document family and events, but to document our lives and our ups and downs as we go through life!

Hey Spidey! - Cathy Martin October 27, 2017 06:00

Hey everyone!  It's almost Halloween!  I love this holiday, and I love the versatility of making layouts for it, because you don't just have to go with traditional colors and icons.  For instance in the layout I created using the Hey Spidey cut file, I went with blues, reds, black and lots of other colors to create a Spiderman themed layout.  I had a 12 x 12 paper that had various comic book panels and I used it to back some of the cut file, as well as a few other papers from my stash.  I didn't over-embellish my layout either, since it really didn't need it, there is already so much going on that a minimal approach worked well.  You could, in fact, use any cut file to create a Halloween themed layout!  Thank you so much for stopping by, and have an awesome day!

Take A Hike - Cathy Martin October 09, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!  Right now here in Canada it's our Thanksgiving, so it seemed only fitting to do a Fall inspired layout with one of Nicole's amazing Autumnal cut files!  I decided to go with her file Leaf Cluster, which is one of my favorites!!!  I could seriously use this file over and over again and have a different looking layout each time!  I decided to go with some not so traditional fall colours that matched my photos to back my file.  I didn't need to do much in the way of embellishing because the photo and cut file were definitely centre stage!  I am so happy with how sweet this layout turned out, and thank you all so much for stopping by!

Awesome Girl - Cathy Martin September 25, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone, it's my turn up on the blog today and I'm continuing to work with the All Boy cut file!  On my last blog post I used several of the words that came with the cut file, but so as to not waste a single bit of paper I added the word "awesome" before I sent the file through my Silhouette.  I didn't know what I would end up doing with it, but I knew that since it was something I could use for almost any layout I decided to cut it.  I'm so glad I did, because I used it for this layout!  A layout that is definitely All Girl :)

I backed the cut file with bright, bold and fun papers from my stash ( I have some drawers of papers that I keep specifically for the purpose of backing cut files)  and then I chopped the word in half so it would fit on my page better, since the background paper I had chosen had an illustration in the lower left hand side.  I decided to go for a funky, whimsical, and slightly minimalistic feel, and I experimented with my photo by cutting out my daughter from the background.  This is a new technique for me, though I know it's been around for quite awhile.  I am super happy with the results!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look-see today!  You can also check out my Youtube channel to see my process video too!

Rad Haircut - Cathy Martin September 16, 2017 07:00

Hey everyone!  It's Cathy and I'm back with another layout!  This week we are focusing on word and sentiment cut files and I decided to use one cut file that had several words in it so that I could make my own title!  I chose the cut file All Boy and cut out several of the words and backed the letters in various patterned papers from my stash as well as some 6 x 6 paper pads!  I totally love how cool this layout turned out, and I was able to use up so many paper scraps as well as older embellishments in order to showcase this awesome cut file!

Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look today!  Don't forget to check out my YT channel to see how it all came together, and have an awesome day!

Live Today - Cathy Martin August 11, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!  I can't believe we are almost halfway through August!  Where oh where has the summer gone.  Well I know for myself I am still going to be scrapping fun and bright layouts for just a little bit longer before I switch and start focusing on the awesomeness of autumn scrapping.  With that in mind this week is circles week and we are focusing on cut files that are circular.  This, for me, is seriously no problem, I LOVE all of Nicole's circular cut files!

For the layout I created I chose the Floral Ring 3 cut file, and I cut it out in a very primary, bright blue.  Now here is where the challenge is because this colour of blue is not one that I would usually use, but I really wanted to give myself a bit of a challenge as well as get a chance to use up products that would match well with the blue that I chose!

After much hmming and hahing and not being able to make a decision on patterned paper I finally was able to back the cut file and choose a background paper that really went well together.  I used products from Pinkfresh Studio and Pretty Little Studio to finish off the layout!

Thank you all so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out my process video to see how it all came together!  Thanks so much for stopping by and have an awesome day!

It Won't Rain All The Time - Cathy Martin July 26, 2017 06:00

Hello hello hello!  It's Cathy and I'm back showcasing another layout featuring one of Nicole's amazing cut files!  I find that the trend of plus signs seems to come and go, but I for one am a big fan!  I really loved all the Positive cut files in the shop, so I chose the Positive One file.  I did a little revamping with the file while I was in the Silhouette software.  I duplicated the file so that I could shrink it down and have lots of plus signs.  I then deleted random signs here and there, just to add a bit of visual interest.

My next step was to back my pluses with lots of different patterned papers from my stash as well as some from 6x6 paper pads.  I used a combo of newer papers from the Little by Little collection along with some papers that have been floating around my stash pile.  I left some of the pluses blank and then put another piece of white card stock behind the whole thing.  I added some details around the white ones with some ticking and then got to embellishing!

I am so flippin' happy with how this layout turned out.  The story behind my layout is about my son and his dealings with expressing and recognizing his emotions, and I just love the juxtaposition of the happy plus signs with the overall story of the layout!

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look today!

Learn To Fly - Cathy Martin July 13, 2017 07:00

Hello everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm back with another fun layout for Just Nick!  For this layout I really loved the Butterfly Background 2 cut file and I had been wanting to do a layout that was very vintage chic inspired.  This cut file would look very cute cut out with white cardstock and backed with patterned paper but it also looks great just cut out of cardstock or patterned paper.  I chose to go with a pink paper with small polka dots and I loved it against the fun yellow background.  It immediately made me think of this soft dreamy picture I had of my daughter.

Once I had my papers picked I knew exactly which embellishments I wanted to use to keep going with that vintage feel.  Once it all came together I was so happy with it.  This picture is one that I have scrapped before, but I wanted to take another try at it and I am so happy with how this one came out!  This soft, sweet cut file can really add a beautiful layer to any layout, so don't forget to check it out in the shop!

Thank you all so much for stopping by and taking a look, and if you have a moment you can go and check out my process video to see how I put it all together!

Thanks Dad! - Cathy Martin June 20, 2017 05:00

Hey everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm back creating a masculine themed layout! Fathers Day was just a few days ago and I was really happy to get some fantastic photos of daddy with the kiddos!  I had been in a scrap slump, but after Sunday I had renewed energy to go and get some of those photos on a layout!

One of my favourite types of cutfile in the JustNick shop are the ones that are lots of shapes attached together.  They are perfect for backing with patterned paper!  I found one that I thought was fun and whimsical and would work well with my idea.  I'm a sucker for circular patterns so this one worked out great!  Usually I cut them using white card stock, but unfortunately I am completely out! (I know, how does that even happen right?) So I decided to use a light yellow patterned paper.  Needless to say after my Silhouette was done cutting I turned the cut file over, and ended up using the other side instead!  You can check out my Youtube video to see what I'm talking about and see how my idea evolved!

Have an awesome scrappy day everyone and don't forget to grab a cut file while you're here!

Happy Girl, Happy Heart - Page Maps Team Up June 07, 2017 06:00

Hey everyone!!! It's Cathy here and I'm back from my trip and I'm ready to scrap!  The thing about taking a long scrappy break though, is that sometimes even though I'm raring to go I just don't have any ideas coming to mind.  Well then in steps Becky Fleck and her June sketches and I'm saved!  So I have been really wanting to use some of my older products as well as some of my more vintage looking products, so I thought I would challenge myself with the sketch I was given.  My sketch is very modern and simple, a great jumping off point, so I decided to soften it up by replacing one of the middle layers with the Henna Heart cut file!  I cut it out in pink and then sprayed it with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Cherry to get a shiny heart!  I had to make a small cut so that I could have it look like it was looping around my middle paper piece.  I then took her visual triangle of embellishments and just went to town!  I used up lots of older chipboard and stickers and was really happy to make a dent in my stash!

So here is the sketch that I was given!

And here is the cut file that I used for my project!

And here is my finished project!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! xoxo Cat

Dream Today - iNSD 2017 May 06, 2017 07:00

Hello hello hello!!! It's Cathy here and I'm so excited to be participating in the celebrations here on the JustNick Blog!  We will have several different designers posting through the day and there will be a free cut file to go along with the posts!  Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of the page to get your code :)

So for my layout I actually used 3 different cut files!  I used the Dreamcatcher 1 cut file, the Feathers 2 cut file, and the Sweater Weather cut file.  I decided to finally get in on the dreamcatcher fad, you know, considering that it's almost over!  Well let me tell you, this turned out even better than I expected, and although I had to be patient when it came to cutting out the feathers and gluing everything down, the actual design came together super quick!  Don't forget to pop over to my YouTube channel to see my process video!

I did a little mixed media behind my dreamcatcher before I glued it down, and I love the addition of the white feathers with my patterned paper feathers.  It really brought a level of dreamy whimsy that I had wanted in my layout!  If you haven't tried a dreamcatcher yet then I suggest you grab yourself the feather and dreamcatcher cut file and get to work, you won't be disappointed!

You can grab the Dreamcatcher 1 cut file for FREE using the code: DREAM2FREE at checkout now until May 7, 2017 only!

Happy Summer - Cat Martin April 21, 2017 06:00

Hello hello hello!  It's Cat here back with another layout!  I am so happy and excited with how this layout turned out so I hope you like it too!.  I used the Radiate Cut File and cut it out from a polka dot patterned paper.  I then backed it with several different types of paper, including papers that originally came from some old K & Company Smash Books that I never even came close to completing!  I kept the embellishments and the background paper simple to really show off the photo and the cut file.  My picture perfectly fit in the circle in the centre.  The Radiate Cut File is perfect for emphasizing one picture and pretty much would fit any theme! I know for many of us who scrapbook the men and boys in our lives we have a difficult time but that's what I love about having the opportunity to create for JustNick, so I can showcase different ways to use her files and hopefully help those who are not sure exactly how to scrap for our boys! I will also have a process video up on my YouTube channel if you want to see how I put it all together, including all of my struggles!

Art is a Treasure April 04, 2017 08:26

Hey hey everybody, it's Cathy!!!  I'm back with another layout to help get your mojo going using Nicole's amazing cutfiles!  So this time around I wanted to do something a little bit more subdued and soft, while still being masculine.  I also wanted to cut my file using patterned paper since I've been doing a lot of cut files with white cardstock.  I cut out the Scribble Circles background file on a sweet mint and white striped patterned paper.  I then backed some of the circles with patterned paper and some I left open.  I used some ephemera from Pretty Little Studio too, which matched perfectly with the colours I was working with!  I love adding vintage touches to a more modern and minimal design.  I really kept the patterns to a minimum and left lots of white space!  Thank you so much for stopping by and have an awesome day!

Little Magic March 22, 2017 07:00

Hello hello hello it's Cathy here and I'm back with another layout!  I don't know about you but even though it's still bitterly cold and gloomy in my region of the world I can't help but long for the beautiful colours of spring!  For my layout today I was inspired by all the fun and colourful scraps that I have in my stash.  Some are relatively new and some are from years ago, but either way I loved combining them together to make this fun image!  I used the Rosette Background 2, and originally I was using it as intended, as flowers, but once I was all done backing it I really loved how much it looked like wonky bubbles, so I decided to document my daughter's bubble blowing adventure last spring.  Backing the cut file with multiple papers was a wee bit time consuming, but I just love the end result!  Thanks so much for stopping by and if you go to my Youtube channel you can check out how I made my layout!

Hey everybody it's Cathy here, back with another layout for JustNick Studio and Scrapbook Circle!  The Scrapbook Circle kit for March was loaded with bright colours and funky designs.  I really wanted to showcase all of those fun papers and colours so I chose the dreamcatcher background 1.  There were lots of awesome spaces to back with papers!  I used a small star stamp to create a fun pattern around where my cut file would rest and then popped my file up on some foam for added dimension.  Since all the  products worked so perfectly together embellishing was a piece of cake!  A big thank you to Nicole and Scrapbook Circle for this awesome team up!

All You Need Is a Free Love Cut File! February 18, 2017 08:00

Hey everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm showing you all my layout using the fantastic Free Love cut file that is available for free until February 19th!  Just use the code FREELOVE when you're at the checkout!  For my take I decided to get in on the bling and I backed my letters with sequins and some large glitter and an iron-on sequin edging.  I always love finding ways to incorporate unusual items and textures into my layouts and this method gave me a fantastic focal piece!  I didn't really need to do much else since I already had so much going on but I did like putting everything on the diagonal.  Just to make it a little more interesting.  I added some punched out hearts for dimension and used some chipboard from Crate Paper Heart Day.  Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to get this cut file while you still can!

All of Me Loves All of You February 03, 2017 06:00

Hey everyone!  Cathy here with a fun lovey dovey layout for you all.  I absolutely love the All of Me cut file and I knew immediately that I wanted to see it in black with gold ink splatters on it, so with that for the basis of my layout I set out to find a picture of my husband and I!  I ended up printing one that wasn't the best quality, but that I loved anyway, so I just kept it black and white and made it a very small photo, that way the title could really take centre stage.  I love the idea of adding other textures on my layouts so I used some beautiful striped ribbon to compliment my page.  I fussy cut out a cute little bird from the Maggie Holmes Gather collection.  I loved how well those Pinkfresh Studio hearts from the Indigo Hills collection matched with all my colours so I added lots of those too!  I absolutely love how well a tiny photo tucks in around my big title, it brings a feeling of cohesion and unity to all the elements going on in my layout.  Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out my process video on my YouTube channel to see how this layout came together and to see what happens when you have a terrible accident while scrapping!

Follow Your Heart it Knows the Way January 27, 2017 07:00

Hey everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm back with another layout!  This time I'm using the fantastic Going My Way background cut file.  I mean, who doesn't love arrows!  I love how these arrows are all intersecting, it's such a funky looking cut file!  I cut it out of white cardstock and put it over a woodgrain background.  I just love the look of a white cut file over top of woodgrain paper :)  I can't get enough of it, and these arrows fit perfectly with my theme!  I also used lots of the older Crate Paper Journey collection as well to really accent my theme!  Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to pop over to my YouTube channel to see how I made this layout!

Love This Baby - Cathy Martin January 11, 2017 07:00

Hey hey!  I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is my first layout of 2017 for JustNick Studio!  I'm so happy to still be getting to create layouts using her amazing cut files.   Now, I will be honest, when it comes to creating a layout, my hardest part is choosing a cutfile to start with.  I know I will sound like a fan girl, but seriously, I really do love so many of her files that narrowing it down to which one is a tough one for me.  I decided in the end that I hadn't scrapped much about my youngest yet, and I wanted to create a cute baby page with some interesting icons.  I found her Up in the Air cut file and I just love hot air balloons!  I am definitely not a literal scrapper, so I really don't mind using icons or images in layouts that are not about that subject.  I mean, when am I ever going to have hot air balloon pictures!  I decided to first back my balloons with vellum, and then patterned paper.  I placed them on a cute piece of paper covered with little clouds just to keep with that sky and air theme and then I got to work embellishing!  I just love how sweet this layout turned out!  Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out my process video to see the layout come together!

Ho Ho Ho - Cat Martin December 29, 2016 07:00 1 Comment

Hey everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday celebration, and cheers to us fast approaching a new year!  I don't know about you guys but I will definitely be glad to see 2016 go in some respects, but in others I was so happy for many of the experiences gained during the year.  I am loving my time here on the JustNick design team and I adore her files, so I'm so glad to share another one with you all today!  So even though Christmas is done, that just means for me that it's time to get scrapping all of those wonderful photos and memories while it's still wintery white outside.  I absolutely adored the Holiday Tree cut file when she put it up in the shop and I knew I needed to use it asap so I decided not to wait until next Christmas and to use it for a holiday photo now!  My original plan for this layout was to use a picture of my son and to use a gray/brown wood grain paper as my background, but after stumbling on this funky turquoise Websters Pages paper I changed up my game plan and used a picture of my daughter instead.  I love the funky, eclectic look of the layout and all the bright fun pops of colour and bling throughout!

Colored Leaves - Thankful November 24, 2016 07:00

Hey everyone, it's Cathy, and I'm back with another layout for you!  For this week our theme was "Thankful"  Now I live in Canada, so we had our Thanksgiving in October, but being thankful doesn't have a time frame, and even the simplest thing can make us feel thankful.  Now that autumn is ending and winter is fast approaching I wanted to take a moment and express how thankful I am for little things, like the beautiful changing leaves of autumn.  This time of year is my favorite but far.  I absolutely love the colours of fall and I love all the celebrations that go on during that time.  I also love gearing up for the holiday season too as I watch the nights get shorter.

So for my layout I used a phrase from the cut file Fall Y'all.  I really love all the phrases from this cut file and will definitely be using the others for different layouts, but for this one I chose the "colored leaves" phrase.  I enlarged it and cut it from white cardstock.  I really wanted a simplistic look to this layout, with the focus being on the photo and the title.  I am so happy with the minimal look that I ended up with, and as a bonus, this layout took almost no time to make, so I got to be thankful for that as well!

She's A Hoot! October 29, 2016 07:00

Hey everybody, it's Cathy and I'm back with another layout!  This time I'm focusing on Halloween, and I don't know about any of you, but sometimes traditional Halloween icons and colours don't really match what I'm doing.  For my daughter's second Halloween she was a cute pink owl.  When it came time to scrap the picture I knew I wanted to go in a different direction, but that doesn't mean I can't use an awesome cut file to emphasize my theme!  I picked the lovely feather background and cut it from white cardstock.  I backed my cutfile with some Pink Paislee Fancy Free paper and then backed the entire thing on some polka dot paper.  Since I had such a busy background I decided to keep my layering and embellishing to a minimum.  I used a white doily behind the pictures to add a little bit of visual interest and I splatters some bright pink colour shine to top it off!  I love the simple sweetness of this layout, the femininity and softness of it compliments the photos perfectly, and the feather background creates such an interesting look.  So remember, when you're scrapping your Halloween photos don't just stop at the Halloween cutfiles, there are lots that you can easily work into whatever theme you are going with!

Autumn Blessing - Simple Stories Team Up October 17, 2016 07:00

Hi everyone it's Cathy!  I'm back with another layout for JustNick Studio.  This time we are teaming up with Simple Stories to create some fun layouts.  I received the gorgeous Hello Fall collection from Simple Stories.  Now while this is a fall collection I was trying to figure out a way to use it that wouldn't be a conventional fall layout.  I decided to use the lovely baby blue and floral paper from the collection for my jumping off point and that made me think about my youngest son, who was born last fall.  I thought this would be a perfect subject to merge with fall inspired papers and embellishments.  I cut out several of the leaf cluster file in white white cardstock and used a few of the other papers to back some of the leaves.  I backed my photos with a few other of the papers and then stuck it all down.  I loved all the project life cards that came with the collection so I decided to fussy cut out some of the images and sayings to add to my layout!  I love how this turned out, and that I was able to use the collection for a slightly different subject!

Girl of Autumn - Stuck?! Sketches Team Up September 24, 2016 07:00

Hello hello hello everyone!  It's Cathy and I'm back with another layout to share with you!  This time I'm getting ready for my favourite season, and what better way to get in the mood for Fall than to scrap about it!  I used 2 cut files from Just Nick this time.  I used her Floral Wreaths cut file as well as her new Leaves 2 cut file!  I just love the look of the stark white leaves and wreath against the wood grain of the back ground paper.  The leaves would look amazing backed with beautiful patterned paper as well but for this layout I love them on their own.  I tend to be a scrapper who only scraps one or two photos per layout so I altered the sketch a bit to suit the picture that I wanted to use.  I also changed the title position, since I decided to go with such large chipboard letters!  Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to pop over to the Stuck?!Sketches blog, because if you play along with the sketch you have a change to win a prize from Just Nick!

P.S. Don't forget to take a look and be sure to take a peek at my process video for this layout!

Enjoy the Little Things September 05, 2016 07:26

Hi everyone it's Cathy and I'm back with another layout!  This time I'm clocking in with a whopping 3 cut files on one layout!  I started by using the Funky Piechart cut file and the Live Simply cut file.  I resized them  so that I would have circles of various sizes to create a fun playful effect on my page.  I backed my cut files with scraps that were just hanging around in my craft room, keeping in mind the colours in the photo.  I decided to go with a white on white look so I used white cardstock for my background as well.  With so many bold circles going on I didn't really need to do much embellishing so I only used a few chipboard stickers to create a little cluster.  I also used a cut file for my title and decided to cut it in a bold red paper.  When I cut a shape or image like the title, that has lots of thin parts I like to use either a solid paper or a very subtle, small pattern so that I don't lose the readability of my title.  I propped my circles up on foam and then added some black mist and my layout was complete!  Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look!

Let's Go Play - JustNick & Jillibean Soup Team Up! August 26, 2016 07:00 5 Comments

Hey everyone it's Cathy here and I'm back with another layout, this time using the amazing JustNick Studio cut files and products from Jillibean Soup

I love this team up and had so much fun creating a cute layout using the Jillibean Soup Mushroom Medley collection and the Scallop cut file!  The Mushroom Medley collection has so many cute and fun elements, it's perfect for outdoor layouts, seasonal layouts, or any type of layout actually!  I loved the masculine colours in the collection and I decided I back one of Nicole's cut files with as many patterned papers as I could!

I used a fun picture of my youngest as I found it really matched well with the collection.  I scoured over all the cut files in the shop and I eventually decided I wanted to do a scallop background.  I know many would consider scallops to be a bit girly but I loved how they added a feeling of motion to the layout, and since that was what I was trying to get across they went perfectly!  I also have a process video so don't forget to check that out to see how I made my layout!

No Rain No Rainbows August 09, 2016 05:46

Hey everyone, it's Cathy, and I'm back with another layout!  This time I decided to use two cut files for my layout, the first one is No Rain No Rainbows, and the second is the Confetti background.  I wanted to created a rainfall effect on my background and the Confetti background did the job perfectly!  I backed the cut file with a piece of multi-colour paper and I really love the effect.  It almost looks like a shower of jellybeans!  For my title I used the Rainbow cut file and painted it a variety of colours using my watercolours.  I then added white and black splatters and outlined the file to really make it pop off the page!  I kept the embellishments minimal since I didn't want to compete with my awesome title and rain effect!  I love how bright and cheery this layout turned out and I am super excited to see what other cut file combinations I can come up with using the Just Nick files!  Have an awesome day!

Here are the cut files used for this project!

Live Simply July 06, 2016 07:00

Hi everyone, it's Cathy here and I am so excited to be joining the Just Nick design team!!!  Here is just a little bit about me!  I live in Prince Edward Island Canada and I am a mom of 3.  I have studied graphic design, illustration and animation.  I love having a million projects on the go and feel the need to do something creative everyday!  I am currently employed as a florist and I love getting to go to work everyday and just play!  For me, I use scrapbooking as not only a way to document my families memories, but as a way to incorporate my love of all things art, and to help with my depression.  As someone who has battled with mental illness all their life I have used my creativity as a way to stay positive and keep my spirits up!  I am currently learning to embrace the life I have and the words in the cut file I used really inspired me!

I am also very eager to dive in and start being inspired by her wonderful cut files!  My first project is a page all about me.  For this layout I chose the Live Simply cut file.  It echoed what I wanted to say so much that I didn't even bother to journal since the cut file really did the speaking for me!

I absolutely love this cut file and I really love the contrast of cutting it in black and keeping everything else very minimal and light.  It really helped my title stand out and speak for itself and I love how well my picture nestled in the words.

Oh and I also made a process video for this layout, so be sure to visit my Youtube channel to see how I made this simple and personal layout!
