'Peace' Holiday gift bag | Jaclyn Rench November 03, 2017 07:00

Hi Just Nick friends, it's Jaclyn joining you on the blog today.  I realize that the calendar just turned over to November but I'm already thinking about (and doing some) crafting for the holidays!  It's never to early to work on gifts and/or gift packaging, in my opinion.

After Christmas last year, I scored a bunch of cute linen gift bags on clearance, for only pennies a piece.  I set them aside, knowing that their blank canvas would be fun to decorate and customize with my paper crafting supplies, as the next year's holiday season approached.  To make this festive project, I simply added to my supplies: a scrap of glitter gold heat transfer vinyl, a shipping tag and some Just Nick holiday cut files.

The first step was to cut a seasonal sentiment from the Holiday Sentiments digital cut design.  There are a variety of words and phrases to choose from in this file, but I chose 'peace', knowing that the simple font would be easily legible cut from glittery gold. I made sure to cut a mirror image of my design, so that when ironed onto my canvas tote, it would read correctly.

I thought the Layered Poinsettia design would make a nice dimensional accent on my bag and allow me to incorporate some more color.  I cut the poinsettia from red cardstock, green tone on tone patterned paper, and even threw in a layer of glittery red paper for an added pop of sparkle and shine.  I finished off the flower with a gold sequined center and adhered it to my bag with hot glue, centered above my iron on.

I needed a place to add who the gift was 'to' and 'from' so that's where the shipping tag came in.  I, again, chose to dress it up with a Just Nick file but not in the traditional sense.  Rather than cut the 'warm wishes' sentiment, I used my silhouette software to fill the design with color, add additional text and print it all onto my blank tag.  It makes a nice finishing piece to the packaging.

Here's one more look at the finished design.  I'll definitely be duplicating this idea over and over again to have a stash of pretty packaging for my Christmas gift giving this year!  I hope this post inspires you to do the same!

Mother's Day gift May 02, 2016 07:00

Hello and happy Monday!  Jaclyn here to kick off a week of projects inspired by some of the most amazing women in our lives...MOMS!

I'm always looking for a unique and special gift each Mother's Day to convey to my own Mom just how much she is loved and appreciated.  While just the right store bought gift could certainly do the trick, I knew something handmade would be most cherished and appreciated.  I reached for my crafting supplies and Just Nick cut files to create a pretty and meaningful shadowbox that my Mom can display in her home.

The Doodle Flowers cut file is quite fun and whimsical.  However, when it is cut from white cardstock and layered atop a coordinating background, it takes on a much more elegant and sophisticated vibe.

Accenting some of the flowers with buttons creates lots of pretty texture and added dimension, while still keeping the focus on the intricate cut designs.

I printed my quote on the background cardstock, but wanted to place emphasis on the word 'Mother'.  I used the Outline Alpha to cut out the letters I needed, once in white and another time from a soft metallic lavender cardstock.  The lavender letters are adhered below the white, slightly offset, to create a shadowed effect.  I used my favorite floral from the Doodle Flowers to represent my 'O' in the word mother.  Backing this design with color and pattern allows it and the remainder of the title piece to pop - ultimately becoming the focus of the entire design.

With limited supplies and pretty cut files, a special Mother's Day gift comes together quite quickly and beautifully!

Don't forget to come back by all week long for more inspiring posts and projects celebrating Moms!
