Rock On! | Jennifer McMurtrey August 16, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

It's Jennifer today with a quick and colorful layout created with the awesome Missing Mesh Background and Blip on the Radar cut files.

Last week my husband and I took our son to see one of his favorite bands - Metallica - at Century Link Field in Seattle. It was such a fun experience and a little surreal as they are one of my favorite bands from my high school days as well.

I started with the Missing Mesh Background file and a piece of black cardstock that I placed on top of patterned paper from Amy Tangerine. This was followed by a piece of hot pink paper (again from Amy Tangerine) and the Blip on the Radar cut file.

Next, I began layering my photos and ticket stubs. I also included the container from the earplugs I wore during the concert (my son will never let me live that down).

The "Rock On!" title was created using white foam Thickers.

Last were more embellishments from Amy Tangerine that include foam stars and puffy heart stickers. There are also a few stickers from Pinkfresh Studio at the bottom of the layout.

Next . . . the finished project!

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you are inspired to create. Be sure to visit the JustNick Studio shop for these and many other fantastic cut files!!

Good Life | Jennifer McMurtrey August 05, 2017 07:00

Hey JustNick friends! It's new file day and I'm sharing a layout with the just-released Boho Florals 2.

My youngest daughter is a Pinterest-loving girl and she is constantly holed up in her room creating projects that she has pinned. A while back she made marbled paper by combining shaving cream with food coloring and the effect was amazing. Naturally, I took it so I could use it on a layout.

The materials for this project were all pulled from the July Hip Kit. First, I used several of the patterned papers along with some packaging and layered them behind this fun photo of me and my friend Mary. Next, I used Abby's marbled paper and cut several pieces from the Boho Florals 2 file.

With the photo in place, I loosely adhered the cut flowers around the photo so they have a lot of dimension and pop off of the page.

I followed that with the title and embellishments from the kit along with strips of patterned paper on the top and bottom of the layout. Last, I sprinkled several of the negative cuts from the floral cuts above and below the photo for added color.

The finished project is bright and colorful and captures the fun vibe of the photo.

Thank you for stopping by today and be sure to visit the JustNick shop for these and many other fantastic cut files.

Hello Summer Mini Album | Jennifer McMurtrey July 22, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! It's Jen today sharing a 4 x 6 summer-themed mini album created using several - okay, make that a lot of - designs from the Just Nick Cut File Store and a mix of collections from Simple Stories.

First is the cover - this was created using a photo overlay with alphabet stickers stitched on for the title. For a bit of texture and color, I added a strip of t-shirt and a piece of ribbon from my stash.

The second page is one of my favorites - it uses the Sunray Background cut file, which I sized down before cutting on my Silhouette.

Prior to cutting the Sunray Background in half, I machine stitched each of the rays and around the sun. Next, cut the sun in half, put both sides together, and sewed along the edge to create a pocket. I then used a journaling card to jot down some memories and placed it inside the pocket.

The next page uses the Summer Words and Beach Umbrella Background cut files that are attached to a 4 x 6 piece of patterned paper.

Up next are a couple of smaller photos on one page with more stitched cut files on the opposite side using the Summer, Summer Fun, and Beach Umbrella Background files. It is hard to see in the photo, but I cut a palm tree using another acetate photo overlay and it is behind the sun.

My idea for this album began with the File Folders cut file which this page uses. Here, I have added several more photos with die cuts, stickers, and the beach ball from Summer Fun.

Two more pages follow that use more patterned papers, stickers, and die cuts with stitching.

Here is another photo and several cuts from Summer Words, Summer Fun, and the File Folders cut files.

Thanks for making it this far . . . we are almost to the end.

This page has more machine stitching with stickers and die cuts the "fun" from Summer tucked behind the photo.

Here is another photo on the left with the On an Adventure cut file stitched to a piece of vellum.

Here I machine stitched a portion of the Wave Border 2 file on a 4 x 4 piece of patterned paper.

Just inside the back cover I used more of the Wave Border 2 behind my photo, which is attached to another 4 x 6 folder from File Folders.

Last is the back cover, which uses a 4 x 6 patterned paper and a photo overlay for added protection.

Thank you for sticking with me to end of this very long post. Please be sure to visit the JustNick blog daily for tons of inspiration from the design team.

Wild Heart | Jennifer McMurtrey July 06, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! It's Jennifer today with my first post as a member of the 2017-2018 JustNick Design Team and I am excited to get started!

Today's project features two of July's new files - Behold Beauty and Blossom Blooms - which I paired with papers and embellishments from the Pebbles Girl Squad collection.

To begin the project, I machine stitched around the perimeter of the black and white patterned paper to frame the layout. Next, I used the pink gingham patterned paper with the Behold Beauty cut file. I cut two sizes of the same file, and I cut two of each in order to layer them on top of one another using foam squares for dimension.

With the gingham flowers in place, I backed my photo with patterned paper and adhered it to the page. At this point, I decided I needed to add a little more oomph to the project and cut several of the Blossom Blooms file with white cardstock. These were placed diagonally in the negative space to the left and right of the photo.

Last, I added the title using Thickers from Paige Evans and a few stickers from Pebbles. I love all of the dimension  of the project and the cut files are gorgeous!

Thank you for visiting today! I look forward to the next year of working with and being inspired by the talented designers on the JustNick team.
