Small Joys - Cathy Martin November 20, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!  It's Cathy here and I'm up on the Just Nick blog today with a layout about being grateful for the small joys in life.  Sometimes when everything is getting overwhelming it's nice to take a step back and think about all the small simple things that can be enjoyed.  Whether it's the crisp smell of the cool air, laying down in a beautiful pile of leaves, or wrapping up in your favorite cozy sweater, these little things that sometimes seem so silly can be a huge help in keeping you grounded.

For my layout I chose the Leaf Circle Background cut file.  I loved how it could be interpreted as a leaf, or a petal, or even a feather.  I cut it out of teal cardstock just for a bit of a change-up from my usual white cardstock.  I backed it with paper starting from the center ring and going outwards. so that it was the same paper on each ring all the way around.  I used a mixture of old and new papers to back the cut file and then it was time to decide what to do for a background paper.  Originally I wanted to use a patterned paper, but after trying to decide for over an hour I gave up.  I ended up finding this dark wood grain and I really liked how it paired well with the dark colors in the photo.  To add a little extra detail I painted tiny white dots in acrylic paint around the outer perimeter of the cut file.

For embellishing I primarily used products from the Turn The Page collection.  It paired well with the colors I was using and many of the phrases were perfect for the mood I was trying to set.  I also used some wood veneers to add an earthiness to the layout and I found some older burlap embellishments from the Craft Market collection from Crate Paper to top it off.  I added some Heidi Swapp color shine in two different pinks to break up the large space between clusters.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look at my project today!  I think it's important for us as memory keepers to not only document family and events, but to document our lives and our ups and downs as we go through life!

Loving Life June 26, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. I have a couple of layouts to share with you today because I have been having so much fun with the JustNick cut files. Did you know Nicole keeps adding more files every week! I see something new and want to create something with it right away, lol.

On this first one I used the Simple Scallop Strips above the photo. But the start of this layout is that Crazy Daisy Background cut file. I first used a black Silhouette pen on the cut file, then I went back and cut portions of it again in different pattern papers. The sketch pen marks are my guide for placing my pattern papers.

I also used the Life cut file for my title. I love the scripty writing.

This next layout I created for Cocoa Vanilla but I love it so much I wanted to share it with you here too. That XOXO background cut file is fabulous! On this layout I cut just the outside with vellum. Then the XOXO background was cut from black cardstock. This way I could layer my cuts, placing sequins underneath.

My last layout was also created for Cocoa Vanilla using the All Boy cut file.

I arranged the words where I wanted them on this layout and cut them directly out of my pattern paper. Then I cut the title again from black cardstock. I placed various pattern papers behind the cuts with the black lettering on top. It's a really eye catching title!

I hope I have inspired you to try a JustNick cut file or two :)

Thanks for stopping by.

You Color Our Life Layout June 24, 2015 07:00

Hello there!

I know that washi tape has been around for so long, but lately I seem to be obsessed.  So much so that I created this layout with all my washi tape.  I just took a piece of white cardstock and started laying out strips of washi tape to create a rainbow affect.

I then wanted to make the title and some of the accent pieces pop so I decided to use black cardstock to make them stand out against the colors of washi tape.

I really wanted my photo to be the main focus on top of the washi tape so I printed it in a 6x6 inch size so that it was very large.  I also changed it into black and white so the colors in the original photo didn't distract from the colors of the washi tape.

For my title I used the cut file LIFE and then typed out the rest of the title.  For the starts I used them from the ALL BOY cut file.

Once I had the photo and stars attached to the layout, I decided to add some sequins to match as well.  I just sprinkled them on right next to the coordinating strips of washi tape.

I printed my journaling and added it to the bottom of the layout and it was done.  This layout was super easy and you could also create the same effect with patterned paper as well.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my layout.  Be sure to check out the JUSTNICK STORE for all the awesome cut files and make sure to check often as more are always added.
