All You Need Is a Free Love Cut File! February 18, 2017 08:00

Hey everyone, it's Cathy here and I'm showing you all my layout using the fantastic Free Love cut file that is available for free until February 19th!  Just use the code FREELOVE when you're at the checkout!  For my take I decided to get in on the bling and I backed my letters with sequins and some large glitter and an iron-on sequin edging.  I always love finding ways to incorporate unusual items and textures into my layouts and this method gave me a fantastic focal piece!  I didn't really need to do much else since I already had so much going on but I did like putting everything on the diagonal.  Just to make it a little more interesting.  I added some punched out hearts for dimension and used some chipboard from Crate Paper Heart Day.  Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to get this cut file while you still can!

Happy Day | Free LOVE Cut File February 17, 2017 06:00

Hi there.  I'm rounding off the Love themed week today with a couple of cards using this week's Free Love cut file...

I adored the fringe look of this pattern paper so I decided to layer three strips over each other.  It's a bit hard to tell in the photo but it has some fun dimension.

Then, I layered 3 medium sized LOVE cuts over each of the three strips and added embellishments...voila!

Get the Free LOVE cut file before it's gone. You have until February 19th. Just enter the code FREELOVE at checkout.

Free Love | Michelle Whorwood February 16, 2017 07:00

Hi Just Nick Fans!

Michelle here with my take on the gorgeous freebie cut file 'Free Love'.  I really loved this file and it was so easy to use, I love that it has two options - hearts for more of a simple look or hearts and florals for a bit more intricacy and delicacy.  I decided to use the hearts and flowers design.

My layout is all about my 'love' for my kids.  I printed out a recent photo of each of my kids in black and white and framed them up in the Instax frames and added them under the large cut file.  The cut file itself I wanted to do in white card stock and layer it on white again as I think it just makes the cut file look extra pretty.  I loved the blue patterned paper that I have added into the L V and E negative spaces to define these letters more.

Once I had added the patterned papers I wanted to do something different in the O part of the cut file so I used this gorgeous butterfly rub on which I fussy cut out after adhering it to some white cardstock first.  I then added a few more embellishments to balance out my page.  I really didn't want to add to much as I wanted the photos and the cut file to be the focal point.

Some close ups:

My Love List | Jaclyn Rench February 14, 2017 07:00

Hi Just Nick friends!  It's Jaclyn here to share another take on using this week's free cut file, Free Love.

Being that today is Valentine's Day, you might think I'd default to making something holiday themed with this pretty design.  While that is certainly a great option, the cut file actually inspired me to create 'an all about me' style page, documenting my current list of loves.

I chose the cut file word that was flanked by hearts on both sides.  I knew it would add to and reinforce the theme of my page and well, I pretty much always love to include hearts anywhere and everywhere that I can!

I wanted my title piece to really stand out on my page, so I made it a bit more substantial by using the offset feature in the Silhouette Studio software, to thicken up the lines before cutting.

I like backing the negative space of diecuts with color, patterns and prints, which is what I did for the letters L, V, and E in the title. For something a little different and unexpected, I filled in the 'O' with a variety of sizes and shades of enamel dots.  Not only does this balance out the color throughout my page, but it also really adds something special to the design.  It is a fun technique and one I'll definitely be trying again.

Don't forget, this week only (today throught February 19th) you can grab the Free Love cut file for FREE just by using the code FREELOVE at checkout.  What are you waiting for - got get it and make something special!

So happy together | Laureen Wagener February 11, 2017 07:00

Hi friends!

Welcome back to a new post and new inspiration for "Love" week. Now, this week wasn't a week to design for me - I don't have a loved one and also am not loving the Valentines Collections with all the hearts and pinks and love themed phrases.

Because of that, I though I'd bring you some inspiration for a "love" themed page without being to themey or valentines related, if that makes sense. Plus I didn't use a Valentines collection - I used the new Chasing Dreams collection by Crate Paper and Maggie Holmes.

I asked my best friend to send me a picture of her together with her boyfriend and their two cats - they are a couple since 7 years this summer and I thought I would just create a page for her to hang in their appartement.

The new Henna Heart cut file is the most beautiful cut file ever! I knew I had to use it and so I started by backing the flower bits and leaves from the file with a patterned paper and later adhered the entire heart onto some vellum.

At first I thought I would use it as is but then decided to place a patterned paper with black tiny hearts on it behind the vellum for a softened look.

I embellished around my picture and the title and then create two mini clusters. That way my page isn't overloaded with too many embellishments and the cut files still stands out beautifully.

I hope I could inspire you with a "couple in love" themed page without using a colection specifially designed for that purpose. The Chasing Dreams collections still has some beautiful elements like hearts and soft colors to use for a love themed page!

Have a great weekend,

Laureen

XOXO and Adore February 09, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Have you ever created a layout using a digital cut file and looked at the pieces remaining on your cutting mat and say to yourself, "That is too pretty to throw away!". I did that this past week with the Blocked Hearts Background cut file. I just couldn't throw away the scraps, so I decided to make another layout, very similar to the first.

This cut file is unique in that it has this big X that dissects the cut file. I wanted to play up that X by placing pattern paper behind only a portion of the cut file so that the heart pattern really popped and yet still maintain some white space. The subtle white on white heart pattern is beautiful, but the pink paper behind the heart cut outs takes your breath away. Here is my first layout using the positive pieces of the cut file...

My second layout is very similar, but uses the negative pieces of the same cut file. It's a bit more gluing, but well worth it. Here is a tip; It helps to leave the negative pieces on your cutting mat so you know where each piece goes...

My parents are adorable! 55 years of marriage and still going strong. On both layouts, I used washi tape to emphasize the X in the cut file. It is the perfect width for washi tape!!

I also used the Love Actually digital cut file for the "Love" and "XOXO" text

Here are a few more detailed shots...

These are the cut files I used today ...

So, next time you use a cut file, take another look at the pieces remaining on your cutting mat. Just maybe, they will convince you too that they are worthy of being scrapped and not end up in your waste basket.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. If you are interested in the YouTube video of the XOXO layout here is a link...

Hello love, XOXO February 08, 2017 11:50

Hello!!
Donna here and I'm gonna be sharing my first layout for the month of February... didn't we just say hello to 2017?? Wow.. time flies surely fast.

For my page, I went to use the remaining set of photos I printed recently for a previous project (as in the last one I posted for Just Nick as well lol!). I didn't want the photos go to waste, so why not make another layout :)

I used the negative of the white cardstock as you can see here. Different patterned paper  underneath made the cuts stand out. To make it more visible, I used a black pen to write inside the cut outs.

I cut the edges of the white cardstock approximately half an inch and used another paper as a mat or base to the whole layout.

I used one of the past Clique kits I have and some other Crate paper and Maggie Holmes in my stash

Cut file used: Love Actually

Thanks for dropping by!

Happy crafting,

Hugs | Tarrah McLean February 06, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!

It's Tarrah McLean back with you today to share a new scrapbook layout created for Just Nick Studio using one of the cute new Love themed background cut files!

I used the cute Pink Paislee 'Pen Pals' collection to create this layout, one of my favourite things to do is to back cut files with all different patterned papers, this range was ideal to do this!

The cut file that I used on this layout is the Cross My Heart Background cut file found in the Just Nick store. I cut it from white cardstock and backed different patterned papers behind it. Once I had all the papers backed, I used some foam/3D tape to adhere the cut file to the background paper. I really like the dimension and shadow effect it gives to my page.

I scrapped a photo from last year of my 2 handsome sons! They are mostly best friends! As an added effect, I used some foam Thickers for my title and to embellish further!

One of the Pen Pals chipboard frames was a perfect addition to frame my photo and draw the eye in! Puffy stickers and chipboard stickers are great embellishments to enhance layouts.

I love how this layout turned out! Check out all the gorgeous new cut files in the Just Nick store today! Thank you so much for stopping by the Just Nick blog today!

Happy creating!

Tarrah x

Love, Love, Love February 04, 2017 07:00

Hello friends! February is the month of love and so today I am sharing a love themed layout.

I chose two cut files for this layout of my hubby and I.  I love the Ying Yang Background and I thought it fit perfectly for this layout.  Basically there isn't balance if there isn't one without the other and I thought it depicted being together.  It was time consuming to create this layout. First I cut out the background on white cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo and then I backed all shapes with patterned paper.

The title is created from the Lots Of Love cut file and I selected three different love words, cut them out on white cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder.

I love the softness that vellum gives the layout so I typed my journaling on vellum and attached the vellum strips with some machine stitching.

I really loved creating this layout of my best friend and I.  Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy your day!

All of Me Loves All of You February 03, 2017 06:00

Hey everyone!  Cathy here with a fun lovey dovey layout for you all.  I absolutely love the All of Me cut file and I knew immediately that I wanted to see it in black with gold ink splatters on it, so with that for the basis of my layout I set out to find a picture of my husband and I!  I ended up printing one that wasn't the best quality, but that I loved anyway, so I just kept it black and white and made it a very small photo, that way the title could really take centre stage.  I love the idea of adding other textures on my layouts so I used some beautiful striped ribbon to compliment my page.  I fussy cut out a cute little bird from the Maggie Holmes Gather collection.  I loved how well those Pinkfresh Studio hearts from the Indigo Hills collection matched with all my colours so I added lots of those too!  I absolutely love how well a tiny photo tucks in around my big title, it brings a feeling of cohesion and unity to all the elements going on in my layout.  Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out my process video on my YouTube channel to see how this layout came together and to see what happens when you have a terrible accident while scrapping!

You + Me February 10, 2016 07:00

Hi there.  Heather is here today to talk about expressing your love through a scrapbook page.  Love is most definitely in the air this week and I'm here to show you how I used hearts to repeat a pattern and make a fun background for my layout.

For today's layout, I used this new Patterned Hearts cut file.  I opened up my Silhouette Studio and placed all 4 hearts from the collection across the page as well as down the page and made them so that they would line up evenly and fill up the page. Doing this in the software helps ensure everything will fit on the page and also gives me an idea of what it will look like.  Then I cut them all out and saved all the hearts as well as the cardstock I cut them out of.

I decided to only use 3 of the heart designs and leave the 4th space blank to incorporate coordinating papers and my photo.  I backed the 3 designs with 4 different types of papers and set them aside.  Next, I stitched the negative sheet of cardstock to a black and white pattern paper so that the pattern paper would peek out from under some of the hearts.  I stitched around each of the hearts, leaving  3 of them blank. I in turn added the coordinating pattern papers to the back using foam adhesive.

Lastly, I stitched some hearts down the middle and  attached other hearts on top using the adhesive dots.  I like the varied dimension of having some popped behind, others popped above and the way the others that are stitched lift up on the sides. I finished the page by adding embellishments, some gold mist splatters and a little bit of watercolors.

Dream Big February 09, 2016 07:00 1 Comment

Hello everyone! Donna here to share another page using one of the newest cut files from Just Nick.

"Dream Big"

I used this new heart cut files "Patterned Hearts" released a few days ago,

My machine had a little bit of glitch when cutting these files. I used 6x6 papers instead of 1 whole 12x12 paper. Somehow only half of the 6x6 paper were really cut through and left slight cuts to the right side of the paper. Instead of wasting the papers, I still used them here. (After several restarting of machine and software it finally cut properly). The hearts were re-sized before cutting them.

I cut the hearts in half and placed them to the left and right edges

By now, you would notice my love for layers and messy threads.. and messy backgrounds. I can't seem to leave them clean lol! I also scattered sequins randomly

here are some more detailed shots

I used "Hot Mess" February kit by Clique Kits

Love, Love, Love All You Need Is Love February 08, 2016 07:00

Hello friends! It's Lee-Anne here and today I am sharing with you a love themed layout of my oldest son and daughter in law on their trip to Europe.

I love working with vellum and I had some red heart embossed vellum in my stash that I thought would work perfectly for this layout and Just Nick Cut Files.

I cut out the Hearts, Infinity Hearts Frames and Lots of Love cut files on my Silhouette Cameo.  To adhere the vellum, I machine stitched the cut designs in place so there was no adhesive showing through onto the right side.

I hope you are inspired to use vellum on your projects with Just Nick cut files.  Check out all the designs, including the designs I used on this layout in the Just Nick shop here.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy creating!
