JustNick Cut File Store

Happy heart | Zsoka Marko November 05, 2017 07:00

Hello crafty friends,

I'm back today with a new layout for Just Nick. This week we are focusing on leaf cut files and I chose this one:

I've used this set many times before, but it is still a favourite! I used one of these four lovely leaves, multiplied them and formed a flower shape.

I love to create for Just Nick, because I can use any supplies my heart desires! And I'm mostly trying to choose an older collection I still have a lot of, which is the case with the one I used for this layout, Chasing Dreams from Maggie Holmes. This is still my favourite collection from Maggie Holmes to this date! The colors are beautiful and there are so many patterned papers in the collection that I can use for backgrounds!

I cut the leaves from textured white card stock, in different sizes. I backed them with various patterned papers, making sure I have a balanced look. If I have stand alone shapes like these flowers (so no background cut files) I always adhere only a part of them to the patterned paper because I love love love the curve the cut file has after peeling it off the mat. This adds dimension and interest to the layout too. I played around with different arrangements and finally settled on this one. No rhyme or reason, I just liked this the most.

Once I had the design I wanted, I glued everything down. I didn't add a whole lot of embellishments, a few buttons and chipboard shapes to the middle of my flowers as well as some stickers around my photo.

I wrote some journaling and stamped my date. As almost always, I finished off the layout by adding some black ink spatters.

It's simple but I like how it turned out. These colours just make me happy!

I hope I could inspire you in some small way today!

Until next time,

Celebrate This! | Morgan Langley September 21, 2017 07:00

Hey crafty friends! Today I am continuing with our weekly theme of backgrounds! For my layout I used the "Brick Circle Background" and I love how easy it was to work with! This file is so versatile and can be used to document any photo with any collection! I love backing cut files with patterned papers because it makes the page so colorful and fun! For this layout I used Maggie Holmes Carousel collection to do so!
I cut my file on white card stock and then went to cutting the pieces to back it. A trick I have learned with backing cut files is to save the negatives of the file on your cut mat and then use those pieces as a template to cut your patterned paper around (leaving a little extra space for adhering)! Then I can just cut the amount of patterned paper that I need!
Then I embellished! The fun part! I fussy cut some of the florals from the collection and used the chipboard sticker sheet, puffy stickers, and ephemera pack. I love the zebra and bunny carousel pieces! So cute! I added a chipboard "celebrate this" banner sticker for my title.
I loved how this adorable bunny matched the bunny in my photo! I hope you go check out all the fun backgrounds in the Just Nick shop and all the other wonderful blog posts this week! Thank you for stopping by!

Hi friends -

how are you doing? Did you create any fun cut file heavy projects this month?
I have one last project for August for you - time flies like crazy, right?!

When I doubt, make a wreath - you probably heard that before. And it is for sure true!
Sometimes I get overwhelmed with all the cut files I have, and then I don't really know what to do and create for my project, when I don't have a specific assignment - Nicole please give me all the assignments for the future - yes? :D

I basically scrolled through my files for over an hour and couldn't decided on what to create and I ended up with the gorgoeus florals from "In bloom" and just created a baby wreath.

I cut them out of patterned paper from the Carousel collection and backed that with vellum and then simply stitched it down with my sewing machine - easy as that! Only took over an hour *sarcasmoff*

Embellishing with the Crate Paper Carousel embellishments is pretty easy - everything matches perfectly and looks stunning! Such a fun collection to work with!

That's it - onto the next time!

Happy crafting -

xo, Laureen

Happiness in Circles! | Morgan Langley August 06, 2017 07:00

Hello friends! Today I am kicking off circles week on the Just Nick blog using the "Dreamcatcher Background 1". I love the sections in this file and I knew I wanted to add some hand stitching!

I started by backing the cut file with papers from the new Maggie Holmes collection "Carousel". Then I stitched some of the sections using corresponding colors and some using plain white embroidery floss.

I embellished using the puffy stickers from the collection as well as those gold glitter stars from the chipboard sticker sheet. I fussy cut two kites from the collection and layered them with some tangled thread. My title came from the ephemera pack and I love how it all came together!

I added some light pink splatters and added the border with my sewing machine! I used light blue thread and set my machine to do a scallop stitch!

This layout was so fun to make and I love the look of the different sections with the Dreamcatcher Background file! Thank you for stopping by!

Too old for snapchat? | Zsoka Marko July 05, 2017 07:00

Hi there,

Zsoka here with you today sharing my very first layout for Just Nick! I'm so excited to be here, thank you Nicole for the opportunity!

I picked one of the pretty flowers from the Floral and Fauna cut file set.

First I cut out a simple ring, then I cut several of the flowers, in different sizes. I backed my flowers with different papers from the gorgeous Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection.

I created a bigger and a smaller cluster of flowers opposite each other on the ring. I added a few different bits and pieces to the middle of them: buttons, chipboard and puffy stickers.

I printed my photo in a couple of different sizes, I wasn't sure which one to add. I didn't like the shape of the photo for this background so I added the same photo in two different sizes.

Other than the flowers I didn't add a lot of embellishments because I wanted the flowers to shine! A couple of chipboards, stickers, title (which I stitched down so it doesn't go anywhere!), date and journaling plus some black paint splatters and done!

I hope you like my project! Thanks for stopping by today. See you next time X

Fun times | Michelle Whorwood June 03, 2017 06:00

Hi everyone,

Michelle here with a new layout.  This week the Just Nick designers were all given a different  PageMaps Sketch to design a layout on. How cool is that!   This is my sketch:

And here is my take on the sketch:

I had lots of fun creating this layout from the sketch, I loved how I could create a page with several photos and also lots of layering elements with two different cut files from the Just Nick Store.   I really wanted to use some of the photo spaces in the sketch as different cut files and to do this I used the Geometric Cards cut file and cut this out on mint cardstock and also on some patterned paper.   I also added some of the scalloped borders from the Simple Scalloped Strips cut file to frame the different parts of layout too.

Some close ups:

I had so much fun creating this layout with the PageMaps sketch.  I hope I have inspired you today to get creating with some of the Just Nick Cut files and do check back and see more designers working with the PageMaps sketches for the rest of this week!

Michelle xx

Happy Love | Delicate Butterflies | Michelle Whorwood May 09, 2017 07:00

Hi Just Nick Fans!

Michelle here with a new layout to share with you all today.  I have used two cut files on my layout, firstly the gorgeous Delicate Butterflies and also the Word 4 cut files which I used to create my title.

I new as soon as I saw this cut file I knew it would be perfect for these photos of my daughters entering the wearable arts competition at our caravan.   Yes my girls outfits are made out of paper!!  I really love the vintage vibe of this cut file which I cut out on a floral patterned paper from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection.  As the name would suggest, this is a very delicate cut file - I would definitely recommend cutting it out with a sharp blade and not having a too sticky mat as it is very fine.  I really liked how the butterflies flowed down the page and I was able to tuck my photos in and around the file this helps your eye wander down the page from the first photo to my second photo too.

Next, I wanted to add a second cut file to my layout - and the Word 4 file worked perfectly for a fun title, and adding it on the larger butterflies added an extra layer of dimension to my page too.  I first cut out the outline in some teal coloured cardstock so that it matched the colours is in the embellishments and the cut file.  Then I cut it out on white cardstock to fill in the file and make it pop off the page.

I really enjoyed cutting out these files and using patterned paper added some interest and variance in colour to the butterflies and of course made it super easy to embellish with more of the Maggie Holmes collection.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!  Do you cut files with mainly cardstock or do you use patterned paper as well?

Michelle xx

Together | Michelle Whorwood April 22, 2017 07:00

Hi everyone!

Michelle here with a new layout featuring the Butterfly Background 2 cut file.  As soon as I saw this file I wanted to use on it a layout as it is so pretty and whimsical. We recently had this family photo taken at my youngest daughters' 5th birthday party and I wanted a cut file that would frame my photo and add some background detail which the butterflies do perfectly.  Here is my layout:

I wanted to make my layout as pretty and whimsical as possible so I added a bit of mixed media to my background patterned paper by using a Shimmers Raspberry Sherbert Paste-eez texture paste applied with a credit card as well as adding some mint and gold mist.  I then added the Butterfly cut file cut out on white cardstock and then added some navy patterned paper to the larger butterflies.  I love the way the butterflies look on the textured background and how the white pops on it as well.  I then added some layers of pink, mint and yellow patterned papers and ephemera from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection and then matted the patterned paper background back onto some white cardstock and added some machine stitching to create more texture to my page.

Close ups:

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!  I hope you have enjoyed my layout using this gorgeous butterflies background.

Little Magic March 22, 2017 07:00

Hello hello hello it's Cathy here and I'm back with another layout!  I don't know about you but even though it's still bitterly cold and gloomy in my region of the world I can't help but long for the beautiful colours of spring!  For my layout today I was inspired by all the fun and colourful scraps that I have in my stash.  Some are relatively new and some are from years ago, but either way I loved combining them together to make this fun image!  I used the Rosette Background 2, and originally I was using it as intended, as flowers, but once I was all done backing it I really loved how much it looked like wonky bubbles, so I decided to document my daughter's bubble blowing adventure last spring.  Backing the cut file with multiple papers was a wee bit time consuming, but I just love the end result!  Thanks so much for stopping by and if you go to my Youtube channel you can check out how I made my layout!

So happy together | Laureen Wagener February 11, 2017 07:00

Hi friends!

Welcome back to a new post and new inspiration for "Love" week. Now, this week wasn't a week to design for me - I don't have a loved one and also am not loving the Valentines Collections with all the hearts and pinks and love themed phrases.

Because of that, I though I'd bring you some inspiration for a "love" themed page without being to themey or valentines related, if that makes sense. Plus I didn't use a Valentines collection - I used the new Chasing Dreams collection by Crate Paper and Maggie Holmes.

I asked my best friend to send me a picture of her together with her boyfriend and their two cats - they are a couple since 7 years this summer and I thought I would just create a page for her to hang in their appartement.

The new Henna Heart cut file is the most beautiful cut file ever! I knew I had to use it and so I started by backing the flower bits and leaves from the file with a patterned paper and later adhered the entire heart onto some vellum.

At first I thought I would use it as is but then decided to place a patterned paper with black tiny hearts on it behind the vellum for a softened look.

I embellished around my picture and the title and then create two mini clusters. That way my page isn't overloaded with too many embellishments and the cut files still stands out beautifully.

I hope I could inspire you with a "couple in love" themed page without using a colection specifially designed for that purpose. The Chasing Dreams collections still has some beautiful elements like hearts and soft colors to use for a love themed page!

Have a great weekend,

Laureen

All of Me Loves All of You February 03, 2017 06:00

Hey everyone!  Cathy here with a fun lovey dovey layout for you all.  I absolutely love the All of Me cut file and I knew immediately that I wanted to see it in black with gold ink splatters on it, so with that for the basis of my layout I set out to find a picture of my husband and I!  I ended up printing one that wasn't the best quality, but that I loved anyway, so I just kept it black and white and made it a very small photo, that way the title could really take centre stage.  I love the idea of adding other textures on my layouts so I used some beautiful striped ribbon to compliment my page.  I fussy cut out a cute little bird from the Maggie Holmes Gather collection.  I loved how well those Pinkfresh Studio hearts from the Indigo Hills collection matched with all my colours so I added lots of those too!  I absolutely love how well a tiny photo tucks in around my big title, it brings a feeling of cohesion and unity to all the elements going on in my layout.  Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out my process video on my YouTube channel to see how this layout came together and to see what happens when you have a terrible accident while scrapping!

Enjoy the Little Things September 05, 2016 07:26

Hi everyone it's Cathy and I'm back with another layout!  This time I'm clocking in with a whopping 3 cut files on one layout!  I started by using the Funky Piechart cut file and the Live Simply cut file.  I resized them  so that I would have circles of various sizes to create a fun playful effect on my page.  I backed my cut files with scraps that were just hanging around in my craft room, keeping in mind the colours in the photo.  I decided to go with a white on white look so I used white cardstock for my background as well.  With so many bold circles going on I didn't really need to do much embellishing so I only used a few chipboard stickers to create a little cluster.  I also used a cut file for my title and decided to cut it in a bold red paper.  When I cut a shape or image like the title, that has lots of thin parts I like to use either a solid paper or a very subtle, small pattern so that I don't lose the readability of my title.  I propped my circles up on foam and then added some black mist and my layout was complete!  Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a look!

Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to check out my YouTube channel for my process video for this layout!

Enjoy the moment February 26, 2016 07:00 1 Comment

Hello everyone!

It's Donna here today to share another page I created using one of Just Nick Studio's awesome cut files.

Today's page is quite simple. I used the cut file Enjoy the moment as my page title.

I layered two of the same sized cut file to add a bit of interest to my title since I only used plain white cardstock. I still wanted it to stand out against the soft pastel colors on the background.

I used "Hot Mess" February kit by Clique Kits

Hope you liked my page today!

Thanks for dropping by!
