Summer Lovin | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 09, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. It's circles week and since I actually had a beach vacation this year, I am showcasing the Beach Umbrella Background. When I think of beach umbrellas I think red and white. I used red cardstock when cutting out the beach umbrella background cut file and then cut circles out of white cardstock that were sized for the umbrellas in the background. I placed the whole thing on top of this cool water pattern paper.

I wanted to use 2 photos on my layout, but I didn't want to cover up too much of that awesome background cut file. I decided to create a flip book with washi tape, so the top photo can be flipped up to reveal my second photo.

That awesome title is from the Summer Lovin digital cut file. This cut file has lots of fun Summer titles.

To emphasize the circle patterns, I stitched around each circle. I love the texture that the machine stitching adds. The pattern paper I used came from the Carta Bella Beach Boardwalk collection. It's an older collection, but I love the primary colors and its vintage vibe. Since I only had a sticker sheet from the collection for embellishing, I pulled some wood veneer pieces and flair from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Hello Sunshine collection and added some Simple Stories brads and phrase stickers.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

I would love to have you watch my YouTube video if you are interested in seeing my process in creating this layout.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great rest of the week.

Rainbow Row | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 25, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I've been working my way through some vacation photos from a trip to South Carolina this past May. If you love gardens and/or food, Charleston is a gem. Their are gorgeous homes with extensive gardens, window box planters, and flowering baskets and Charleston is a culinary hub. Oh my, did we eat some amazing meals there! After one such amazing meal, we needed to do some walking and headed toward Rainbow Row. These houses, each painted a different color, are one of the most photographed in the city.

On this layout, I combined the Outline Alphas and the Script Font to create a dramatic title. I wanted the letters to be tall, like these buildings, so I stretched the cut file. Then I backed the letters with some gorgeous multi-color floral paper from a Maggie Holmes Crate paper line.

I added a travel tag from the Around the World digital cut file and tucked it under the main photo.

Here are a few more detailed shots ...

Here are the cut files I used today ...

I hope I have inspired you today to create a big title with lots of impact! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week.

YAY! | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 14, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia back today sharing a layout I created for my daughter Colette's graduation party. This spring she graduated from veterinary school!!! Her Dad and I are so proud of her. It was not an easy road and she studied her brains off. She is specializing in emergency vet medicine and just started a year long internship. There is just something that thrills her to be able to react to critical cases. Never a dull moment!

I wanted my layout to scream CELEBRATION so I gravitated to that Starburst digital cut file. I used the Simple Stories Grad collection and the pattern papers also had stars. Here is how my layout turned out...

I really love how that Starburst cut file turned out when cut from gold cardstock. I created a BIG title using the YAY! from the Card Sentiments 1 digital cut file. It was perfect to help capture the feelings from that big day.

I saved a few of those cut out stars and used them as embellishments. You can see a large star tucked under the tassel.

Here is one more detailed shot. I used some foam adhesive to adhere the YAY! title over the top of the stars. It really pops against the black background and the gold stars.

Here are the cut files I used today  ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!!

Dad and Sparky | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 23, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. All this week, in honor of Father's Day, we are showcasing masculine layouts. I thought I would scrap a photo of my Dad and his dog Sparky. These two are never far apart. Sparky was a rescue dog that certainly found his furever home when he caught our eye on a local pet adoption day. Scrapping a photo of my Dad means I can make use of that awesome new DAD digital cut file too. Here is my layout ...

Besides the Dad cut file, I add some XOXO dog tags from the In The Doghouse cut file and made use of some triangles left over when cutting the Triangle Geo Background cut file. I love the added interest the triangles give to my background ... and they coordinate really well with the black geometric pattern paper.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Enjoy your weekend!

Made In The USA | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 02, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends, Marcia here today. All this week JustNick designers have been showcasing layouts using PageMaps sketches created by the wonderful Becky Fleck. Here is the sketch she gave me...

It's awesome, right!

There is a lot going on in the sketch, so I decided to use the left side of the sketch for my background cut file. I recently returned from a vacation in South Carolina and had lots of pictures from Patriots Point, so I opted to do a patriotic layout. It seemed fitting with Memorial Day just this past Monday. My guys really enjoyed visiting the USS Yorktown. I think they could have stayed there for hours.  I stuck pretty close to the PageMaps sketch. I did use a larger focal photo in the middle. Here is my layout...

I used a cut file called Ride the Wave. I resized it to fit on the left half of my layout. It reminds me of the American flag waving in the wind. My intent was to leave it red and white, but then decided to add some blue in the negative space. Some machine stitching reinforces the wave design.

Here is the cut file I used today...

If you are interested in my process video, here it is ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check out the other sketches from this past week and their coordinating layouts.

My Science Guy May 18, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a scrappy confession. I've been very bad about scrapping layouts of my son. He doesn't like having his picture taken. He doesn't post selfies of himself all that often. It was quite evident that his sisters get lots more attention on my scrapbook pages when I was putting my latest layouts in albums. So for a little while I thought I would concentrate on scrapping the photos I do have of him. These were from Christmas a year and a half ago.

I used this awesome background called Weird Science. When I first saw it, I thought of these pictures I had of him receiving a bartender chemistry set for Christmas. He loves math and science. He is currently working his way through college as a bartender ... so of course he needed a bartender chemistry set.

I used the Simple Set Alphabet for my title. I like the whimsical feel to this font.

I backed the negative space with pattern papers from the Shimelle Little By Little collection. The circle patterns in the paper drew me in. I knew they would be perfect with all the circles in this background cut file, plus the primary colors are great for scrapping my science guy.

Here are the cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Friends Become Our Chosen Family May 06, 2017 11:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends. Happy National Scrapbook Day!

Marcia here today with some scrappy inspiration and a FREE cut file! I love using circle frames around my photos. Floral Ring 2 is a new digital cut file, so I thought I would use it to showcase a photo of my besties.

To add dimension to my layout, I layered some more flowers on top of the Floral Ring. These are from the Stems For Stephanie digital cut file.

I used one more cut file today. I just love this title, Friends Become Our Chosen Family. These wonderful women really are like family for me. They were neighbors but most have moved away, still we get together at least once a month.

Here the cut files I used today...

If you are interested in watching my process video, here it is ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. You can grab the FLORAL RING 2 cut file for free using the code: RINGFREE at checkout until midnight on May 7, 2017 only!

More free cut files are coming later today, so be sure to stop back.

Bubble Blowing Fun | Marcia Dehn-Nix April 20, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today. I have an awesome layout to share today. This one has a photo of my daughter at 15. She had just learned how to blow bubbles with her bubble gum. Of course, after learning how, she was chewing gum and blowing bubbles all the time. I thought it would be fun to use lots of circles in my design to put the emphasis on the bubbles. I selected the Protozoa Background and selectively backed only a few of the circles.

I used a sheet of acetate to back my cut file. The acetate sheet had lots of colorful circles on it as well. I created my title by mixing the Outline Alpha  and the Script Font digital cut files. I backed the outline alpha letters with a marbled pattern paper that reminded me of bubble gum.

Here is a closer look...

I framed my photo with the Round and Round cut file, adding even more circles to my design.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to check out what's new in the JustNick store.

Hey Gorgeous | Marcia Dehn-Nix April 06, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends! Marcia here today. I have a sweet layout to share using one of the newest cut files in the store. When I saw the gorgeous new Butterfly Background 2 digital cut file I could not wait to use it. I love the delicate butterflies. This cut file is perfect for Spring photos, but I thought it would also be lovely with a photo of my adventurous daughter.

Here is a better look at those amazing butterflies...

To form my title, I combine the Hey speech bubble from the Girl Power digital cut file with a rubber charm with the word Gorgeous. This was cut pretty small. If you are having difficulties cutting items with your electronic machine try cutting it twice. I find I can get a better cut with a so so blade if I cut it twice.

Here are the cut files I used ...

If you are interested in watching my YouTube process video here you go ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Check out all the new cut files in the JustNick Store.

Hello Spring March 27, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends! Marcia here today kicking off a week of Spring inspiration. When I think of Spring I think of Sunshine and Flowers. Two things that after a long cold and snowy winter are like a breath of fresh air. So my layout today features sunshine and flowers ...

I started off by creating my background, using the Let It Shine Background digital cut file as a stencil to create my sun rays. Some stitching on the rays adds some definition and texture.

I add a little green to the bottom of my layout background for grass. A perfect setting for those Delicate Florals...

When it came time to choose a title, I could not resist using the new Hello Spring cut file. I backed the title with some of the same papers as I used for the flowers.

I am so happy with how this layout came together.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

If you are interested in watching my process video, here it is...

I hope I brought some sunshine to you on your Monday. Have a great week!

Twins Game - Scrapbook Circle Day 2 March 07, 2017 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick Studio friends! Marcia here today to share a layout I created with the fabulous March Scrapbook Circle kit and JustNick Studio digital cut files. All this week you can see inspiring projects from both design teams.

I think I squealed with delight when I opened up my box and saw products from the Shimelle's Little By Little collection, Amy Tangerine's On a Whim, and Paige Evan's Oh My Heart. I was dying to use the new Star Background 4 cut file. I thought it would be perfect for a sports layout and I have been wanting to scrap this picture of my daughter at a Minnesota Twins baseball game. Here is how my layout turned out ...

I cut the file knowing I wanted to put a 1/2" border around the edge using this colorful striped paper. Using the red from this same sheet of striped paper, I backed some of those star cutouts.

I even did some hand stitching with some red thread! Under my title I did a little journaling. I don't usually do handwriting on my layouts, but this kit came with a Pink Paislee stamp set so I could stamp the guidelines for my writing! I might be doing more handwriting on my layouts now. I used a lighter ink to stamp with so the emphasis would be on my journaling.

I think this is a new favorite cut file!

Here is the cut file I used today ...

If you are interested in seeing my process video, here it is...

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to check back every day this week for more inspiration using the March Scrapbook Circle kit.

Selfie Love February 25, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a fun layout using 3 different cut files from the store. When my daughter was a teenager, she had no selfie control, lol. I decided to create a layout of some (yes just some) of the selfies she took in just one night while at a football game with friends. I combined 2 different cut files to create my title "Selfie Love". Then I decided it would be fun to add a camera too. Here is how my layout turned out...

My title is a combination of the Capture This cut file and the Lots Of Love cut file.

I cut the camera out of black cardstock and backed it with a bright yellow to coordinate with the emojis. It's from the Summer Cards cut file.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Be sure to check out what's new in the JustNick Studio store.

XOXO and Adore February 09, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Have you ever created a layout using a digital cut file and looked at the pieces remaining on your cutting mat and say to yourself, "That is too pretty to throw away!". I did that this past week with the Blocked Hearts Background cut file. I just couldn't throw away the scraps, so I decided to make another layout, very similar to the first.

This cut file is unique in that it has this big X that dissects the cut file. I wanted to play up that X by placing pattern paper behind only a portion of the cut file so that the heart pattern really popped and yet still maintain some white space. The subtle white on white heart pattern is beautiful, but the pink paper behind the heart cut outs takes your breath away. Here is my first layout using the positive pieces of the cut file...

My second layout is very similar, but uses the negative pieces of the same cut file. It's a bit more gluing, but well worth it. Here is a tip; It helps to leave the negative pieces on your cutting mat so you know where each piece goes...

My parents are adorable! 55 years of marriage and still going strong. On both layouts, I used washi tape to emphasize the X in the cut file. It is the perfect width for washi tape!!

I also used the Love Actually digital cut file for the "Love" and "XOXO" text

Here are a few more detailed shots...

These are the cut files I used today ...

So, next time you use a cut file, take another look at the pieces remaining on your cutting mat. Just maybe, they will convince you too that they are worthy of being scrapped and not end up in your waste basket.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. If you are interested in the YouTube video of the XOXO layout here is a link...

Winter Wonderland January 18, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with another winter layout. This time I used with the amazing Nordic Background 2 digital cut file. I just love the warm, comfy feel of that Nordic pattern with my winter photos. It's very... hygge (Yes, I learned a new word!)  In Danish, hygge (pronounced “HUE-gah”) means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Take a look at my layout and you will see what I mean ...

I wanted this layout to coordinate with another layout I did at the end of December using the Nordic Background cut file, but yet I wanted it to be slightly different. The Nordic pattern of this cut file is divided into 2 triangles. I decided to arrange these at the top and bottom of my layout and create some white space on the right side. Using pennant flags reinforced the triangle pattern.  Here are some close-ups...

I love adding some machine stitching over this Nordic pattern for texture.

Here is the background cut file I used.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Stay warm and cozy!

Let the Sparks Fly January 03, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. This week designers were challenged to concentrating on those word cut files. I thought it would be fun to scrap some New Year's Eve photos and use the New Year Words cut file. When combined with the Confetti Background cut file, you have a recipe for a fabulous New Year's Eve party layout!!

Here is a close up of that awesome Confetti Background cut file.

I love the ready made titles in the New Year Words cut file. "Let The Sparks Fly" was perfect for this photo.

Here are the cut files I use today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Snow Fun December 21, 2016 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I love living in a place where I can enjoy the 4 seasons. In Minnesota, you can always count on snow and cold temps in the winter. You may think that hibernating is the best way to get through ... but there is lots of fun to be had outside still. My sister-in-law's family like to skate and play hockey on a pond in their backyard. I love this picture of them doing what they love together. When I saw the Nordic Background digital cut file I knew it would make the perfect backdrop for their family photo. It adds a cozy feeling, just like a warm sweater. Here is my layout ...

Isn't that cut file amazing! Take a closer look.

This quote I fussy cut out from a journal card ties in with the sweater theme perfectly too; ' We Go Together Like Winter and a Sweater '  ...

Here are a few more close-ups ...

Here is the Nordic Background digital cut file I used today.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful Holiday and I hope 2017 brings peace and prosperity!

Grateful November 22, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

This week, with Thanksgiving looming for us in the States, we are focusing on things to be thankful for. Of course I am grateful for my parents who just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary! Whenever I asked them for help in the past, they were there for me; babysitting, dog sitting, you name it. But this past summer, those tables were turned. My Dad needed emergency surgery and for weeks following could not do his own yard work. He needed help! Thankfully it was only a couple weeks and my siblings and I are close enough that we could all help. So this November, I am extremely grateful that my Mom and Dad are still around for me to enjoy.

I used the Infinity Hearts digital cut file to frame the photo of my parents. Then I added the heart border from the Hearts digital cut file on the right side under the so very blessed project life card. My title "Grateful" came from the new Many Thanks digital cut file.

Here are the digital cut files I used today:

Thanks so much for stopping by today! For those in the States, Happy Thanksgiving!!

Shine Bright November 08, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia back today. I took a break from Fall layouts to do a girly one to share with you today. The beautiful new Fancy Floral Ring digital cut file reminded me of those flower wreaths they place over a horse's neck after they win a race. Well, I thought it would work well for this horse show picture of a friend of mine. I used a gold metallic cardstock to cut it out as I thought the pattern in the floral ring mimics the gold floral pattern in my friend's riding outfit. To keep the emphasis on the photo and floral ring, I decided to back the ring with vellum and place some shiny sequins underneath. They are kept in place by the machine stitching I added over the top of the ring.

Here is a closer look at the Fancy Floral Ring digital cut file I used embellished with the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Free Spirit collection.

Just look at all the intricate details in this gorgeous cut file...

Here is the cut file I used today.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great week.

Autumn Splender October 21, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. All week we have been showcasing our awesome JustNick Studio digital cut files with the beautiful Simple Stories Hello Fall collection. My layout uses two of the new cut files for autumn; Fall Y'all, and Leaf Cluster. I love how well these two cut files coordinate with eachother. I cut both of them from a Simple Stories dark woodgrain paper, then I filled the negative space behind the leaves with  different pattern papers from the Hello Fall collection. With the gorgeous leaf cluster, my layout doesn't need a lot of other embellishments

Here are some close-up detail pictures. I just love how adorable this fox is. He is a chipboard sticker from the Hello Fall collection.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend.

May You Follow October 04, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends! For the next 2 weeks our designers are teaming up with Pretty Little Studios to bring you such fabulous inspiration.

Marcia here today sharing what I created with the beautiful Pretty Little Studio  Woodland collection. Using the Rustic Leaf Frame digital cut file, I created a window card. My sentiment is stamped inside the card, but you can see it through the dandelion transparency sheet. This frame was so perfect to use with these pretty outdoorsy papers.

Aren't these butterflies awesome! Here is a detail look at the Rustic Leaf Frame.

Autumn Beauty September 26, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends! Marcia back today with an Autumn layout using some of the newest JustNick digital cut files. There are so many fabulous files to choose from for your Fall photos. I absolutely adore all the new circle frames. Today I am using the Autumn Ring , Leaves, and Leaf It To Me. They were perfect to showcase this senior photo of my niece.

I went a little crazy with the mixed media on this one, lol. I wanted to extend the colors from the photo onto the layout, mixing in some paper leaves around that beautiful frame. Here are some close-ups...

Here are those cut files I used ...

Summer Fun September 06, 2016 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. Nicole challenged us this week to use at least 3 cut files on our layouts this week. An easy task ... because all the cut files are so amazing. I had some camping photos from this summer to scrap so here is what I came up with. I used 4 cut files. Two of which are new; the Rustic Leaf Frame and the Vine Background. These were perfect for camping photos.

Here is a closer look at the Rustic Leaf Frame. This is one of my favorite new cut files released. I sized the frame so a 5x5 photo would fit perfectly ...

I trimmed the Vine Background down so that I only used a small part of it along the side of my layout and stitched over the top to add some texture.

I combined the Summer Words and the WORD 2 digital cut files to create my title...

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks for stopping by today. Check out all the awesome new cut files in the store.

Funhouse Selfies August 22, 2016 07:00 15 Comments

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. All week the JustNick design team is partnering with the awesome Jillibean Soup.

I was so excited to receive the Healthy Hello Soup collection to play with. Since it's almost State Fair time here in Minnesota, I was inspired to scrap a couple really funny selfies of my daughter and her friends as they were looking at themselves in funhouse mirrors. I wanted a background cut file that would reinforce the funhouse theme and found the Sunburst Circle Background. It was perfect!! Here is my layout...

I backed some of the sunbursts with reflective silver foil. I love how this reminds me of those funhouse mirrors. I embellished with the Healthy Hello Soup stickers, acrylic shapes, and cardstock die cuts.

For the 'Selfies' portion of my title I used the Lower Case Alpha cut file.

Here are the digital cut files I used...

Thanks for stopping by today!

We will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to our store at the end of the week - leave a comment her or over on the Jillibean Soup blog to enter!

Be sure to stop in all week for more inspiration with Jillibean Soup.

Motorcross August 06, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia back today sharing a layout I created using the awesome new Broken Chevron Background cut file. I thought the chevrons would be great for some of my guy pics. It reminded me a little of tire treads and that made me think of my nephew who races motorcross. I thought it would be fun to scrap a photo of him racing his dirt bike. My nephew has been racing most of his life, traveling all over the place just to race. Here is my layout...

I filled the negative space of the chevrons with two different colors of pattern papers, keeping the same color in my rows. I thought it would be less busy that way so the focus would stay on my photo. I used the fun Lower Case Alpha for my title, cutting the letters large so that they would fill the space across the bottom of my layout.

I wanted more black accents, so I cut some stars out using the All Boy cut file. These were scattered diagonally across my layout along with some wood veneer gears.

I love how easily this layout came together! Here is a look at the cut files I used today.

All the fabulous new August cut files were just loaded in the JustNick OnLine Store. You really need to see these. They are seriously awesome!

Thanks for stopping by today!

But First Coffee! July 11, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the JustNick design team! I LOVE working with Nicole's cut files. My All About Me layout today features the Patterned Clouds cut file. They reminded me of gloomy Eeyore ... notice my Eeyore coffee cup. It was a gift from my son. I am just like gloomy Eeyore in the morning. Yup, I am not a morning person ... at all! I would love to blame my thyroid condition, but let's face it ... I have never been a morning person. Mornings are just worse now since I need to be medicated and caffeinated in order to wake up!

The alpha I used for coffee will be coming to the JustNick store soon... I jumped the gun and used it a little early.  Let's look at those clouds a little closer ...

Since my morning routine involves feeding 5 cats, I thought the cat chipboard sticker was appropriate here. No, they are not all mine ... 2 are my daughter's (she is temporarily living back at home). But I guess 3 cats still makes me a crazy cat lady, lol. I just can't help myself though when a stray cat shows up.

Here is the digital cut file I used...

A Little More About Me: I have been married to the most wonderful guy for the past 33 years! We live in Minnesota (where winters are way too long and summers are way too short) and have three adult kids. I have been scrapbooking for over 15 years. Besides my love for all forms of paper crafting, I have a soft side when it comes to cute, furry animals. Currently in residence is the family dog Satchel, and 3 cats; Delta, Spook, and Xena (and temporarily my daughter's dog Princeton, and her 2 cats Turk and Tuna). I guess you could say I live in a zoo, lol.  I work a 9-5 job designing software for electrical utilities. Yup, I am a nerd.

You can find me here ...

Little Moments June 22, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with some layout inspiration using this months Freebie cut file; the Tic Tac Toe Background. You can download this file for free until June 30th using the code TICTACTOEFREE at checkout,

This was a bit of a challenge for me, not being a grid based scrapbooker, but I love a challenge to get me out of my comfort zone and try something different. I really love how my layout turned out...

I used the Elle's Studio Little Moments collection and sized my cut file openings to 2" x 2" so that these square project life cards would fit in the openings. I like the ombre effect I achieved by backing the cut file with the ombre pink pattern paper. I filled the solid areas with my photos,  I didn't have enough photos for all the spaces so this vellum heart ephemera piece worked well to fill that last little space.

I even placed my title over two of the squares.

Thanks for stopping by today! Check out all the fabulous new designs in the JustNick Studios on-line store.

Hello Summer - Apostle Islands June 13, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. The JustNick Studio design team has been busy creating with the June Clique Kit. This fabulous kit features the Elle's Studio Little Moments collection, Jillibean Soup Healthy Hello, and of course some Clique Kit exclusives ... like these awesome JustNick Studio digital cut files!

I love adding sun rays on my summer layouts. I couldn't resist using the sunshine icon in a big way on this vacation layout. I pieced some yellow Elle's Studio paper in the negative space that was from the 6x6 paper pad. This is a great way to use those smaller pieces of paper!

Last summer hubby and I escaped to the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior for an extended weekend. The only way to get to the island is by boat ... in our case it was the Madeline Island Ferry. The best part of all was going off grid. Yup no cell phone service except for in the town of La Pointe! No way for our 9 to 5 jobs to call us while we were on vacation!! It was pure bliss.  You are probably wondering what the heck that sign says! The Ojibwa Indian sign on my layout was at the beach. It says "No Life Guard On Duty ... No Diving Or Jumping From Bridge ... Swim At Your Own Risk". The Islands are beautiful and I had so many photos from our trip that I decided to create a couple filmstrips of images. I didn't want my layout to be too busy though so I added the Hello Summer icon in the middle. This worked out well for setting off my title too.

Here are some detailed shots....

I created a second layout using those darling butterflies and my daughter Naomi's fur baby! Princeton is a Corgi and Border Collie mix we think. He was adopted through a local rescue.

Here is a closer look at those awesome butterflies.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out the new cut files loaded in the JustNick Store.

Happy Memorial Day JustNick friends ... well at least if you are in the USA. Marcia here today with a patriotic layout using the new Bits and Pieces Star background cut file. You are getting a sneak peek today ... This file is hitting the JustNick store on Friday ... so please check back then. I was a little too enthusiastic to use it on a Memorial Day layout.

This layout features my husband. He is a former Marine and now volunteers his time with fellow police officers from the Minneapolis St Paul Airport Police Department on their Honor Guard. They attend funerals of police officers around the state, but they also volunteer to stand guard over our fallen soldiers coming back from overseas to their final resting place.

Instead of backing each of those tiny squares with different pattern papers, I opted to selectively fill portions of the negative space to mimic our American flag ... with the colors reversed as that is what I had for patriotic pattern paper. I used the Simple Stories Hero Collection Simple Set with a few embellishments thrown in from other collections. Then I added some stars with modeling paste painted with acrylic paint.

I love the overall look. I didn't want to ruin the star focus, so my journaling was done around the edge of the die cuts.

Here is the cut file I used today. Stop back on June 4th to purchase from the store.

Thanks for stopping by today! Stop by the JustNick store to check out all the awesome digital cut files.

Don't Just Follow Your Dreams, Chase Them May 14, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. School is winding down here in the states and another of my nephews is graduating! I just received his grad party invite in the mail along with a photo and had to use the new Dreamcatcher_1 digital cut file to scrap it.

I placed my title on the left side of my photo as I did not want to cover up too much of my dreamcatcher. Of course my title had to contain the word dream! To keep the dreamcatcher from being too busy I limited myself to just 3 different pattern papers. I am using the fabulous Fancy Pants Designs Attwell collection. I thought that feather pattern paper in the collection was perfect for the dreamcatcher.

Here is the Dreamcatcher_1 cut file I used...

I wanted to share one more layout with you today using the Bits and Pieces Heart Background digital cut file. The new cut files were so awesome I couldn't wait to scrap with them. I created this one on International Scrapbook Day using my May Clique Kit featuring the Basic Grey Urban Luxe collection and the Fancy Pants Designs Attwell collection.

I pieced the inside of the heart with different pattern papers keeping to a cool color scheme with blues and purples along with some white and black.

Here is the Bits and Pieces Heart Background cut file I used.

Thanks for stopping by.

Today Love Blooms April 25, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. It's Spring and I have been out cleaning out my flower beds to prepare them for planting this year and my husband has already put my water fountain out. He gave me this fountain as an anniversary gift over 15 years ago. I could probably count the material gifts he has given me over the years on one hand, but when he does buy me something, he knows my heart. Keeping this fountain running is a labor of love for him, a gift he continues to give me each year.

That background paper is so beautiful, but I did not want my photos to get lost. Framing them with the Spiral Background cut twice from white cardstock really helps keep them from blending into the background. The spirals are so similar to some of my floral die cuts too.

Some black Stems really pop against all that vivid color.

I used two different cut files to create my title; "Today" from the Today Forever Always cut file, and the "Love" from the Word 3 cut file.

Here are all the cut files I used today.

Thanks for stopping by.

A Cut Above April 06, 2016 07:00 20 Comments

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here ... I am so excited to be back today for our team-up with PinkFresh Studios. I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to create with the Life Noted collection.

This is such a versatile collection and it has the coolest embellishments. Here is the layout I created ...

Did you see those acetate words? Swoon!

My daughter is a Vet student at the University here in Minnesota. This year she started performing surgeries. Of course she documented the event with a selfie, and of course I am scrapping it! Proud Mama moment! I used the Graphic Background digital cut file, cutting 2 so that they would span across the width of my layout. This graphic design is the perfect compliment to this piece of blue pattern paper that has lines criss-crossing it. The diagonals were perfect for framing these awesome embellishments like these gold epoxy stickers and these rubber pieces.

Here is that Graphic Background digital cut file ...

All week long we will be hopping with the team from Pinkfresh Studios! Leave a comment HERE and you could win a goodie bag from Pinkfresh Studios - head over to the Pinkfresh Studio blog and leave a comment for a chance to win  $25 gift certificate to the JustNick Store!

Easter Egg-citement March 29, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today.

How many of you celebrated Easter this past weekend? I have an Easter layout to share with you. I wanted to give you an idea of how to use some of those photos you took. I chose three different JustNick digital cut files for my layout; the Half Shell Background, the Arrow Set 1, and the Outline Alphas. The pattern paper is from the Simple Stories Life in Color and Carpe Diem collections. Take a look ...

I separated the alpha letters I needed and arranged them in a whimsical manner before welding them together. Once it was welded, I created an outline by using the offset feature. I love the splash of yellow behind the black outline. These Alphas are so versatile! You can create any title you like with them.

And what's not to love about that awesome Half Shell Background? It's perfect for Easter! With so much to love, the "Love This" arrow was another perfect choice...

Could he be any cuter?

Here are those files I used again ...

Be sure to stop by the JustNick Store to check out all the latest digital cut files. Thanks for stopping by today.

Bunny Cuddles March 16, 2016 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today. I am so happy to be back designing for JustNick Studios! I love the awesome digital cut files Nicole Nowosad designs. Today, I created a Spring layout for you using some Studio Calico Goldy papers. Check it out ...

I really wanted to use this Heart Explosion cut file on a layout. With Easter coming, I chose to scrap this photo of my daughter's pet rabbit and one of our cats. This rabbit was litter boxed trained, so he was allowed to run when we were home. These two loved to cuddle.

I used gold lame crepe paper to create that fringed heart inside the cut out heart.

I went with a BIG title, using the Handcut Letters cut file. Inking the edges of the letters with some matching ink helps them to pop from the white background.

Here are the cut files I used ...

14 Days of Holidays - Day 13! December 17, 2015 00:00 1 Comment

Welcome back to another day of our 14 days of holidays FREE cut file giveaways! Marcia here today and I am excited to be sharing a fun 2 page layout using today's free design - Merry Wishes!

I take so many pictures at Christmas that I decided to make a 2 page layout. The first page has some snapshots I took of the kiddos while we were waiting to see Santa. The second page captures the visit with Santa.

I repeated the "MERRY" text down the whole side of my layout and backed each one with a different pattern paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Tis The Season collection. I layered more words from the Merry Wishes cut file on top.

Here is the second page...

I used 2 more JustNick cut files here; the Naughty or Nice and the Tree Trio.

14 Days of Holidays - Giveaway Day 1 December 01, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Welcome to Day 1 of our 14 Days of Holidays cut file giveaways! Each weekday from December 1-18, 2015 we will be giving away a FREE cut file for that day only!

Today's free cut file is JOY.

Marcia here today with a layout to inspire you using this awesome cut file. One of the gifts my husband and I like to give our kids is to take them and their significant others out to the theater and dinner. This photo was taken when we went to "Elf" the Broadway musical. It's not the best photo.... it was taken with my phone by one of the elves. My kids tell me I am not allowed to pick the show we go to anymore, lol. This was geared way more toward the little kids, and I was expecting adult humor.

I used the cut file for my title, cutting it once with red and again with white so I could layer the white over the red.

I also added interest to my background with multiple cuts which I then backed with pattern paper.

Today’s design – JOY - is yours for FREE today only!

Just enter code: JOYFREE at checkout to get this design for free.

This code is only valid until midnight CST on (December 1st, 2015).

No purchase necessary. Happy Holidays from us to you!

Give Thanks November 19, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today.  Wow! Only one more week until Thanksgiving here in the USA. This year I have so much to be grateful for. I have a wonderful family including a new son-in-law. We have a beautiful spacious home that we are currently sharing with the newlyweds so they can save up some money to buy their own house. We are all relatively healthy. I decided to scrap a family photo with the Imaginisce Give Thanks collection. Since my photo was taken in the fall, I wanted to create a background of colorful leaves with the new JustNick Leaf Background digital cut file. I am thrilled at how it turned out ...

I have to share a close up of the leaves. The stitching adds a nice touch.

I cut out a few feathers using the JustNick Sweater Weather digital cut file. Aren't they fun!

You can also see I added some texture using the JustNick Positive 2 Background digital file as a stencil and some molding paste.

Here is a wrap up of the JustNick digital cut files used...

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week.

You & Me November 03, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today. I have a wedding layout to share with you. My daughter and her husband just celebrated their first anniversary and I was feeling guilty for not having finished scrapping all the pictures ... gasp!. I used the gorgeous Life is Beautiful collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studios.

I used a couple different cut files on this layout. Since It's a wedding photo, I wanted to incorporate some hearts. I found a great heart border in the Hearts cut file.

The hearts were used to separate two pieces of pattern paper.

Now, you will also notice the Scribble Circle. This is from the Scribble Circle Background cut file. I deleted all but one circle and after cutting it out, stitched around it. I love the texture that stitching adds.

I added another larger scribble circle under my photo and I stitched this one as well.

Don't be afraid to alter a cut file to suit your needs... Just imagine all the possibilities. Thanks for stopping by.

Make A Wish October 22, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today. I have a birthday layout to share with you today of my nephew. His Mom made him this awesome eyeball monster cake with cake pops. I was lucky to catch a picture of him blowing out his candle.

This week Nicole challenged us to use 4 different cut files. These are the 4 that I chose....

I like to create stencils with the background cut files so I can use inks to add interest to my background. I choose the Shattered Glass Background for this because I wanted to focus on triangular shapes throughout my layout to coordinate with the pattern papers from the PinkFresh Studios Happy Things collection.

Another cut file with triangles is the Basic Banner. Banners really add a festive element to the layout. These banners have such fun repeating shapes too.

To help frame my photo, I chose the Doodle Frames cut file. I cut only the outside of this frame.

Of course with a birthday layout I would need a birthday title. The Card Sentiments 1 with the "Make a Wish" caught my eye for my photo of my nephew blowing out his first birthday candle.

I hope I have inspired you today with my layout to try some JustNick cut files yourself. Thanks for stopping by.

Cards to Celebrate October 09, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today.

I have a couple cards to share with you for celebrations. The first one I created with the Lemon Slice digital cut file.

I was eyeballing this cut file when I created my last layout using the Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss collection. I kept thinking, "You Put the Lime in the Coconut"... and so the lemon slice became a lime slice. Yes, I know its Fall, but the weather here is still surprisingly warm. I'll take those warm days without complaining because all too soon the snow will be flying here. Here is my card...

I cut the lime twice, once with pattern paper and once with watercolor paper that I then painted a lime green. This way I could swap out parts and make 2 limes.

For my second card I used the new Birthday Sentiments and the Simple Scallop Strips digital cut files.

Birthday cards are by far the cards I make most often. Here is my card...

I decided to create a cake for those candles to sit on and decorate it with the scallop strips. I used the Celebrate sentiment from the same cut file.

Thanks for stopping by.
We would really love to see your creations using the JustNick Studio cuts!  Please feel free to share them on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram with @justnickstudio

Jamaica September 23, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today to share my latest layout using some fabulous JustNick background cut files. Did you know you can use the cut files to create a stencil so you can apply paints or ink to your layout or card. I created a stencil with the Funky Rectangles Background.

With the stencil in place, I first applied a coat of gesso and let it dry. Then I applied some blue acrylic paint over the gesso. I love the added interest and texture the paint adds. Here is my layout...

The flowers I saved from cutting the Fancy Floral background. Don't be so quick to throw those scraps away!

Want a closer look?

Sunshine & Happiness September 02, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today to share my latest layout using some fabulous JustNick cut files. I was drawn to the Sunshine & Happiness cut file since my husband and I recently returned from a short weekend getaway to the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. We found a gorgeous beach on Madeline Island to spend the day. Here is how my layout turned out ...

The Twilight Zone Background was perfect to draw the eye to the focal point of my layout, a large photo that I centered in the middle.

I framed a couple of wallet photos using two of the Polaroid frames. I love how these turned out.

Here are the cut files that I used ...

Love This Moment August 17, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today to share my latest layout using some fabulous JustNick cut files. I was drawn to the Heart Background 2 since I am still scrapping photos from my daughter's wedding. I like that some of these hearts are open. They are perfect for creating a shaker effect with some vellum, sequins, and gold stitching. Here is how my layout turned out ...

I love the softened feel the vellum adds. Here is a closer look at those sequin filled hearts...

I used one of the Scripty Phrases for my title; "Love This Moment". It's elegant script is perfect for my wedding photos.

Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to check back often as Nicole adds awesome new files to the store every week.

This Happened August 11, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today with a layout to share with you. Recently my husband and I visited the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and were delighted to find that Lego sculpture artist Sean Kenney had numerous works on display. The nature sculptures were all integrated into the beautiful gardens at the Arboretum. When Nicole released the Butterfly Background digital cut file, I knew it would be perfect to go along with the Monarch on a Milkweed Lego sculpture. This week Nicole challenged us to use three different cut files. Here is my layout...

I elongated my butterfly cut file a bit to suit my layout. Aren't those butterflies gorgeous! Here is a closer look...

I also used the Simple Circle Background. It reminded me of Legos, so I knew it would be perfect to add some interest to the background.

My title "This Happened" is from the WORD cut file.

Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to check back often as Nicole is constantly adding awesome new files to the store.

Go See Do Vacation Explore Adventure July 24, 2015 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia here today with a vacation layout to share with you. I know lots of you have vacation pictures laying around so here is some inspiration on how you can scrap them. This is a pretty simple layout with the focus being on the cut file and my photo. I used the JustNick cut file On an Adventure and the Pink Paislee Atlas collection.

I love this cut file. The words "Go See Do Vacation Explore Adventure" just gets me all excited about an upcoming vacation I have planned. This is an intricate cut. If you have problems cutting more intricate designs, try double cutting them or use a new blade.

Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to check back often as Nicole is constantly adding awesome new files to the store.
