Vroom | Marcia Dehn-Nix March 21, 2019 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I am hoping it warms up enough here in Minnesota where the kids can be outside again riding their bikes. In the mean time, my Spring fever has me scrapping a photo of my nephew from last Spring. I thought the Tread Background was perfect for this bike riding photo.

To get the tire treads to stand out, I backed the black tire tread design with a grey cardstock. I placed a red patterned paper circle between the layers before gluing them together. I didn't want to cover up too much of that tread design. Then my photo and embellishments went over that circle. I may have gotten a little carried away with the embellishing, lol.

I repeated the circle, adding a few more smaller circles in the opposite corner. Again, I went crazy embellishing the tops of these circles.

For my title, I warped the Vroom from the Planes Trains & Autmobiles cut fileI wanted the word to be larger starting out and get smaller. I thought it would help show movement. Here is how you can warp an object in Silhouette Studio.

Right click on the cut file and select Ungroup. Move the items you are not using off the grid. Select the object to warp and click on the warp icon (last icon on the right). Select a corner edit point and drag it outward. On the opposite end, select a corner edit point and drag it inward. Play around with the edit points until you like how it looks.

I didn't like how the stars looked warped so I trimmed them off. I replaced them with other stars from an ephemera pack. I edged the word with a black marker. This helps it pop as well as gives it a grungy feel.

I love how this turned out.

Check out my YouTube process video for a tutorial on warping an object.

My Mona Lisa Moment | Marcia Dehn-Nix March 04, 2019 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I am sharing a travel scrapbook layout with you that I created with four different JustNick Studios digital cut files. This layout is about my recent trip to Paris where we visited the Louvre Museum. Who knew Mona Lisa could draw such crowds!

I combined three cut files to create my title. My favorite Outline Alphas were combined with the "my" from My Heart is Full and the "moment" from Enjoy The Moment to form "My Mona Lisa Moment".

I wanted to use a few travel icons too. I found a geotag and globe in the Around the World cut file. The globe was perfect to layer under my photos to help frame them.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Winter Wonderland | Marcia Dehn-Nix February 22, 2019 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today from snowy Minnesota where we are still digging out from our latest snowstorm...  and getting ready for another 4"-8" over the weekend. How fitting that my layout today is a winter one. I really wanted to get this family photo scrapped before spring settled in and we were all sick of winter. (Ok... some of us are already sick of winter!) Check out my layout anyway ...

I used the Snowflake Cluster cut file to ground my photo. The white snowflakes make quite an impact against the dark background.

I wanted to scatter a few more snowflakes onto my page and discovered the Snowflakes 2 cut file has some of the same snowflakes! I cut them out twice, once with white cardstock, then again with vellum. The vellum snowflakes soften my page a bit and I could add a layer of snowflakes over my photo as well.

Along the right side of my layout I arranged a variety of papers and vellum with lots of curvy edges. I wanted you to think blowing snow when you saw it. Here I layered some of the white and vellum snowflakes to create this beauty!

I love how this turned out ... maybe more so because my favorite people are in this photo.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. If it's snowing where you live, get outside and snap a few photos! There are plenty of winter cut files in the store that are perfect for documenting them.

Sweetheart | Marcia Dehn-Nix February 12, 2019 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today to share my LOVE layout inspiration with you. There are lots of awesome new cut files in the store and I could not wait to use them ... especially this Candy Heart Background. How cute is that! Perfect for scrapping your Valentine's Day pics. My mixed media background sets those hearts off nicely.

I love creating layers of papers and embellishments on my layouts. I actually used 5 cut files here! Here is a closer look at those fabulous hearts. Can you see the other cut files?

I placed one of the Dainty Doilies behind my photo. Isn't it gorgeous! Doilies are so great for layering! They add a nice feminine touch.

Underneath my photo is a border strip of hearts from the Hearts digital cut file. Then, sandwiched between flowers you can see the pretty airy leaves from Stems 5.

In the lower right hand corner I chose the scripty word 'Sweetheart' from the Love List digital cut file for my layout title. This cut file has lots of title options for your Love layouts. You could even mix and match these words with another cut file to create a totally new title option.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you all have an amazing Valentine's Day.

Berlin's The Kiss | Marcia Dehn-Nix January 17, 2019 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. After the Holidays, I tried to do some de-stashing in my craft room and got distracted when I found what was left of my Simple Stories Urban Traveler collection. It was just what I needed for scrapping my Berlin photos, so I figured if I scrapped a layout, I would have less stash to go through. Makes perfect sense, right. Scrapping is way more fun than de-stashing anyway. Here is what I came up with ....

I wanted to create a more grungy background, so I cut the Missing Mesh Background and used it as a stencil with some distress ink. Inking the edges of my pattern papers also gave my layout a more grungy appearance.

To frame my photo and computer journaling I altered the Noted File Folder. I wanted it to be longer. This was easy to do. First I duplicated the folder. Then I just moved it below the first one and welded it together.

Here are the digital cut files I used today.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you have a great week!

Nurture | Marcia Dehn-Nix January 08, 2019 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with my first layout of 2019! This week we are focusing on layouts about ourselves, or about our 2019 goals. Well lucky for you, my niece took some family photos for us just before Christmas because my selfie skills are severely lacking. I had to crop my hubby out of this photo so it was just me,lol.

I don't do One Little Word, but I like to see the words other people pick and why. It gets me thinking about what I should try to improve upon in the upcoming year. I chose NURTURE. When you nurture something, it thrives. I spend a lot of time taking care of the people around me that sometimes I don't take care of me. My exercise gets overlooked if I need to find some extra minutes in my day. I am sure many of you can commiserate. But I also want to nurture my relationships. It's important to spend quality time not only with my husband, but my aging parents as well (especially my Dad with dementia). So here is my layout that I created with the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection and awesome digital cut files from JustNick Studios.

I love to create texture and interest on my backgrounds using a white pattern on a white background. It's subtle, not too overpowering. I used the Tin Tile Background  on here. It's a beautiful backdrop for my title created with the Outline Alphas.

This Stem digital cut file is one I use over and over again. I love how delicate it is and it's perfect for layering in your embellishment clusters like I did here.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Do you have a word for 2019 that you've chosen? I would love to hear what it is. Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Joy Joy Joy | Marcia Dehn-Nix December 20, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. One of the things I love about Christmas most now that my kids are adults are their homecomings around the holidays... and not just Christmas. Homecomings can occur any time during the year and I think they are always joyous occasions! So I thought I would scrap one of those homecomings using the Joyful title to show you it can be used all year around.

I cut the Joyful title out twice to make my title more interesting. I trimmed out the pieces I wanted by hand and layered them in some cases using pop dots to add dimension.

I also used pieces of the Star Background 2. I hate throwing scraps of paper away. When you cut out this digital cut file, you could use both the positive and the negative pieces! Because the Joyful title had stars, I dug out these stars I had cut previously. The color was a good match with the pattern paper. You can't go wrong with stars ... they are perfect for guy layouts when you don't want to use flowers.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you capture some joyous moments this holiday season! Happy Holidays!

Tis The Season - Day 8 | Marcia Dehn-Nix December 08, 2018 00:01 3 Comments

'On the 8th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, 8 Maids a-milking' ... Well, I have no maids a-milking for you today ... but I do have this awesome 'Tis The Season digital cut file for FREE!
Marcia here today. I knew the Tis The Season cut file would make an awesome title for my Christmas layout. I combined it with the Winter Frame cut file that was free a few days ago. I hope you snatched it up then, if not it is still available in the store for purchase.
I love getting my Christmas decorations out and making the house more festive. I even put my wooden shoes out underneath the tree!
Here is a closer look at the Tis The Season title...
It's hard to tell, but if you look closely you can see I used the Winter Frame to create a shaker element. Can you see the sequins in the middle of the frame. Some transparent vellum over the top allows them to move around a bit. I machine stitched around the edge of the frame to make sure the sequins would stay put.
I really love how this layout turned out!

Holiday Cards | Marcia Dehn-Nix November 28, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Do you make holiday cards to send at this time of the year? Marcia here today. I try really hard to make cards and get them all mailed out. Some years I do better than others. I can't seem to force myself to make any though until after Thanksgiving. I am in full Christmas cardmaking mode now though, lol. I love using digital cut files on my cards just like I do my layouts. On my first card I added a pretty Layered Poinsettia along with some Stems 2. I love the dimension the layered poinsettia adds.

For my second card I used the Holly Ring digital cut file to frame my sentiment.

Here are the cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week.

Love Story | Marcia Dehn-Nix November 12, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. This week on the blog we are posting projects with the theme Thankful. I know with Thanksgiving approaching we are thinking about all the things we are thankful for; family, jobs, health ...  My hubby just had surgery recently to repair a hernia (nothing too serious). I am thankful that I have had this wonderful man by my side for 35 years so I decided to scrap one of our wedding photos. (Don't laugh too much about my 80's hair and hat. lol. I converted the photo to black and white so you can't tell that his tux is baby blue)

I used the new Rustic Floral Frame 2 and cut it out in a metallic gold to frame my photo. Then I added two of the new Rose Clusters backed with pretty pink pattern papers.

To add some depth, I used the Stems 2 digital cut file as a stencil behind the rose clusters as well as under some fussy cut flowers.

Here are the digital cut files I used this week...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Did I get you thinking about what you are thankful for?

Pumpkin Carving | Marcia Dehn-Nix October 22, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with some Halloween inspiration for you. Do you have your pumpkins ready to carve? My son Trenton takes pumpkin carving very seriously. Last year I helped him create a stencil of the clown from the movie It using my Silhouette Cameo. It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but above the clown are the words You'll Float Too. This pumpkin was so popular last Halloween my Trick or Treaters (and their parents) were taking photos of it. I can't wait to see what he is planning to carve this year. I used the new Web digital cut file to add some creepiness to a corner. I love that big black spider hanging down.

For my title, I used my favorite Outline Alphas and backed the letters with different pattern papers.

Here is a close up of that clown all lit up ...  Be sure to check out the eyes. Awesome, Right?

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week!!

Home Sweet Home | Marcia Dehn-Nix October 05, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Before the first frost here in Minnesota, I wanted to get a photo of my hubby and I on our front step. I like to fill my front step with pots of flowers and ferns. It make me happy to see the plants when I come home. I decided to scrap that photo using the Home Sweet Home digital cut file.

Home Sweet Home made for the perfect title. I layered some gold over the top to create some added interest.

I knew I wanted to include some florals behind my photo and decided on Floral Swag 3. I filled the flowers with a variety of pink pattern papers.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Pumpkin Bowling | Marcia Dehn-Nix September 17, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today kicking off some Fall inspiration for you. There are plenty of new Fall cut files in the on-line store. Today I used the new Fall Florals because it went so well with the Forever Fall collection from Simple Stories. I also had to use a pumpkin. Pumpkins are one of the first things I think of for fall. I love those pumpkin spice lattes. There are lots of fun family activities at the local pick your own pumpkin patch, from corn mazes to even ... Pumpkin Bowling! My cute nephew will show you how its done ...

For my title I like combining different fonts, colors, and textures to create an eye-catching title. Here I used the scripty word 'pumpkin' from the Feels Like Fall digital cut file and combined it with some chipboard alphas.

The Fall Florals cut file includes a cotton boll stem as well as these pretty flowers. You can also see a pumpkin layered in the back from the Sights of Fall cut file as well as a few leaves.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check out all the Fall digital cut files in the JustNick Studios store for documenting your Fall memories!

You Make My Heart Smile | Marcia Dehn-Nix September 07, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studios friends!

Marcia here today. This week we are focusing on using the Words/Phrases in the JustNick Studio store. There are so many awesome phrases that could be used for titles. I wanted to scrap this fabulous photo of my son. Weekend vibes gave him such a great smile. I decided to use the You Make My Heart Smile cut file because seeing him smile makes me so happy.

Here is a closer look at my title. I cut it out twice, once with my pattern paper and again with a black cardstock. Layering the two really helps make that title pop.

Behind the title you can see the Star Background 5 digital cut file. I love stars for my guy layouts and the circles here repeat the circle pattern in the pattern paper on the left side of my layout. Those rings are delicate, be extra careful removing it from your mat.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you have some fantastic weekend plans!

Fun In The Sun | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 27, 2018 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Have you seen the new Fun In The Sun title in the on-line store? I wanted to combine it with the South Pacific Floral digital cut file, but not in the usual way. I busted out my Silhouette sketch pens and instead of cutting out the design, I sketched it instead. Then I dug out my watercolors and got busy adding some color to the sketched design. This gave me a gorgeous unique background that I could use to scrap some Waikiki Beach photos. Take a look at how my layout turned out...

I am by no means good when it comes to watercolors, but it's fun to play with them sometimes and I am happy with the results. I applied a layer of gesso over the top of the sketched design. This helps to blend the colors later. It muted the lines a little, but I like that it's soft. Here is a closer look...

I absolutely love the new Fun In The Sun title. I backed the middle with a blue watercolor pattern paper. I felt I needed to bring in a little more blue besides the blue in my photos.

I backed the alphas with a script pattern paper in white. I wanted to keep my layout bright and airy.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you will try using a sketch pen in your die cutting machine. It's really easy to do.

Wild At Heart | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 01, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. One of my favorite destinations for a summer road trip is Grand Marais Minnesota on the shores of Lake Superior. The lake is so big it almost like seeing the ocean. It was a foggy rainy day when we were there, but that just added to it's mystic. When scrapping this favorite photo from the day, I wanted a way to convey the greatness of all that water ... Lake Superior is after all the largest of the Great Lakes. I think the Wave Background digital cut file does it justice!

I still wanted a skyline on my layout so that I could also convey what a cloudy day it was, so I erased the top portion of the background. That left room for me to include some clouds from the Sunny Days digital cut file.

I carefully added some machine stitching to emphasize the waves on the background. I love the effect.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a great rest of the week.

Something Beautiful | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 17, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. It's finally summer in Minnesota and my family was able to get away for a few days in early July and head to the north shore of Lake Superior. I snapped these photos of my daughter as we were hiking to one of the beautiful waterfalls there along the Superior Trail. I wanted to use a digital cut file that would help convey the great outdoors. The Arrowhead Background digital cut file was perfect.

I wanted the pattern to be subtle, so I erased some of the arrows. This is an easy cut file to alter. After cutting, I used some plastic packaging and diluted spray mist to add a little color. Then I backed only some of the arrows with pattern papers, choosing to leave the rest backed with just white cardstock. Some machine stitching adds some texture.

I created embellishment clusters starting out with the Blossom Blooms cut from white cardstock for a base. I love how they soften everything and anchor my photos.

Here are the digital cut files I used today.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope your summer has been filled with wonderful adventure too. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Life Is Good | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 03, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today and I am so happy to be back designing for JustNick Studios as I am a digital cut file junkie and Nicole's cut files are some of the best out there! Our first assignment for the term is an All About Me project so you can get to know us better. So here is a little about me ....  I've been married for 35 years to a wonderful guy. We had 3 children who are all adults now ... the last one is almost done with college. Wahooo! I also have a lot of fur babies as I am a rescue foster failure as well as a stray magnet. Currently in residence we have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I have been playing with paper ever since my best friend dragged me to a crop night almost 20 years ago. I also love to garden, cook, and read. (Actually, I don't read... but listen to audiobooks while I scrapbook.) This way I can keep up with my neighborhood book club. I work full-time as a software engineer designing software for electric utilities.

For my layout, I decided to document my love for my favorite kitty. He is neurotic as all get out but I love him. He is one of my foster failures. I could not let him go when he was well enough to be adopted.  I used the Paws To My Heart Background digital cut file.

This cut file has the cutest little pawprints ...

But you can also see all the hearts that go across the page ...

Cutting this background cut file with a pattern paper that was multi-colored adds so much interest too...

You might be able to read my journaling here...

Here is the digital cut file I used today ...

Stop back every day to meet all the other designers. Have a great week!

City Market | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 20, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Do you like to try new trends? Mandalas and doily patterns are really hip right now. I wanted to show you how you can use these on a layout with dramatic results.

I used the Dainty Doily digital cut file to make an eye-catching background for my title. In addition, the doily pattern duplicates the shapes and textures of the sweetgrass baskets in the foreground photo.

Here is the digital cut file I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Accordion Mini Album! | Morgan Langley June 09, 2018 07:00

Wicked Fun | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 08, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. A year ago, my daughters and I were finally able to see the off-Broadway musical Wicked when it came to Minneapolis. It was so fabulous!!  I knew I wanted to use the Marquee Alpha digital cut file for these photos. It made for the perfect title cut from a vivid pink and yellow, just like the theater marquee sign.

I thought I would play up the Marquee Lights by using the Twilight Zone 1 background digital cut file. I love that it looks like light is radiating out from my title and photos.

I combined the Marquee Alpha with the Simple Set Alphabet to complete my title.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Thanks for stopping by. Have a fabulous weekend.

Middleton Place | Marcia Dehn-Nix May 29, 2018 06:30 2 Comments

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a gorgeous 2 pager layout for you today using the beautiful Maggie Holmes Flourish collection from Crate Paper. I am trying to catch up on my layouts from a vacation we took last summer to Charleston, South Carolina. While there, we visited Middleton Place Plantation and spent the day walking the unbelievable gardens and enjoying a Southern buffet lunch. We even saw a few alligators! Here is my layout...

I framed my photo using the Lotus Ring digital cut file. I left the space open to leave it light and airy. Framing your focal point photo draws the eye right in.

For my title I mixed the Outline Alphas with some gold Thickers. I filled in the alphas with a pretty floral print.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

My Greatest Blessings Call Me Mom | Marcia Dehn-Nix May 09, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a layout about my three greatest blessings. The most important and rewarding job I have is being a Mom to my kids. Let me tell you though, it hasn't been easy! I sometimes wish they were little again. Patching up skinned knees is way easier than helping patch a broken heart ... or sitting by a hospital bedside after a car accident. But love binds us together and I know I can get through anything with my kids by my side. So to celebrate Mom's week at JustNick Studios, I decided to scrap a recent photo of my kids with me from a recent camping trip at our favorite spot, Itasca.

I used the Mom digital cut file for the 'MOM' part of my title and alpha stickers for the rest. I love the little flowers and sprigs of leaves welded to the letters. It suits my outdoor photo. I backed the flowers with some pattern paper and then added some enamel dots for dimension.

I created clusters of embellishments on both sides of my photo. To reinforce the outdoor theme I cut some stems from the Stems 4 digital cut file to add to those clusters.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week and for you Mom's, I hope your Mother's Day is fabulous.

On The Hunt | Marcia Dehn-Nix April 20, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. With Winter hanging on here in Minnesota and 2 feet of snow on the ground I was desperately needing some sunshine ... even if it was just on my layout. I decided to scrap some older photos of my daughter hunting for Easter eggs on a beautiful Easter morning. Spring = sunshine + flowers. I think I have everything covered on this layout.

I love using a digital cut file as a stencil and decided to use the Let It Shine Background to create my sun. Some machine stitching added some texture and definition to the sun's rays.

I used some soft pastel pattern papers to back the Scribble Floral Background. What an abundance of beautiful Spring flowers!

I love these pics! My Naomi was so adorable in her Easter dress and bonnet.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

If you are interested in watching my YouTube Process video here it is...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I sure do hope Spring arrives here soon. Have a great weekend!

A Trio of Birthday Cards | Marcia Dehn-Nix April 04, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. This week our focus is on Birthdays. Did you know JustNick Studios is 3 years old! Since I am always in need of birthday cards, I made a trio of fun, festive birthday cards to share with you. For my first card I used the balloons from Birthday Sentiments and cut several balloons from pattern papers to layer on a card.

I used some foam circles to make some balloons float on my card and added some bows.

I love the look of white on white when using die-cuts. For my next card, I reiterated the word Happy from the Card Sentiments 1 digital cut file down the center of my card in a white cardstock and then added a bright bold colorful Birthday. So fun!

On my last card I went for delicate and pretty... but I still wanted to use bright colors. I cut the Delicate Butterflies out from white cardstock and then used my Distress Oxide inks to color them a rainbow of colors.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Have a great week.

He Grew | Marcia Dehn-Nix March 30, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. This week the focus has been on flowers, perfect for Spring. In Minnesota, I am still waiting for those flowers as there is still snow on the ground. It cheers me up though to be able to create with some beautiful flowers. Spring is also a time when the children in my church make their first communion. So I thought combining flowers on this layout of my Dad on the day of his first communion would work. My Dad grew up on a dairy farm, the youngest of 11 children. My grandparents are posed with him in this photo. It brings a smile to my face as I see my Grandpa dressed up ... he is wearing a tie with his bib overalls.

I used the Floral Swag 3 and Blossom Blooms digital cut files and arranged them in a circle to frame my photo. Since I had greenery from the Floral Swag 3 cut flowers, I used my eraser in Silhouette Studio to erase the leaves from the Blossom Blooms cut file so I was left with just the flower. I did the same for the Floral Swag cut file so I could cut the flowers out of different pattern papers.

To add some dimension to my layout, I placed buttons in the center of my flowers and added even more flowers with some painted wood veneer pieces.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

If you are interested in watching my YouTube process video here it is ...

I hope I've inspired you to add some flowers to your Spring layouts too. Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a delightful Easter weekend.

Prone to Shenanigans and Malarkey | Marcia Dehn-Nix March 15, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia back today with some St Patrick's Day inspiration. My daughter and a friend were lucky enough to spend a few weeks traveling across Europe a few years ago. Ireland was one of her favorite places. She said the people there were so friendly. I thought it would be fun to scrap the selfie she sent me from an Irish pub on her first night there.

Have you seen the new Crop Circle Background? It has a Celtic vibe to it, so I wanted to use it for my background. I cut it out of a gold metallic cardstock ... because Leprechauns like gold, right? I love how intricate this is.

I decided to mix some fonts to create my fun title. The Outline Alphas look amazing when backed with a variety of green pattern papers and I combined it with the Type It Font cut out in a black cardstock for contrast.

Big titles are awesome when you don't have a lot of photos and your camera phone photos aren't as high a quality. Here is more of the Type It Font for 'warning'

Here are the cut files I used today

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have an awesome St Patrick's Day!

XOXO | Marcia Dehn-Nix February 05, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia back today. This week is all about  L O V E  on the JustNick Studio blog ... and there are so many awesome digital cut files that work well for documenting all of your love stories on paper. I wanted to use the new XO Heart digital cut file to help frame my photo and decided to add some hearts to the background with the Cross My Heart Background digital cut file. I love how it turned out!

You can see the Cross My Heart Background has these little squares to form rows of hearts. In addition, I cut out just the inside heart from several different pattern papers. Hand stitching would have looked awesome with this cut file.

I love how the XO heart frames my photo. You can see a larger heart from the Hearts 2 digital cut file tucked underneath. I love the patchwork effect the background has, yet with that pink framed heart, the focus is still on my photo.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week!

Snow Adorable | Marcia Dehn-Nix January 19, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends! Marcia back today with a fun winter layout to share with you. I live in Minnesota where you can always count on cold and snowy winters. When I saw the new Frostbite Background digital cut file, I couldn't wait to use it with this outdoor photo of my daughter and her dog.

I wanted to add some of the beautiful snowflakes from the Snowflakes 2 digital cut file and create a visual triangle with them. I cut 3 of the 4 snowflakes in this cut file pretty large and arranged them so that they were partially off the page.

I like to mix fonts when creating my titles so I used the scripty "Snow" from the Holiday Words digital cut file and combined it with some Thickers from my stash.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

For more details on how I created my Snow Adorable scrapbook layout, I would love to have you stop by and watch my YouTube process video.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a great weekend!

Twas The Night Before Christmas - Marcia Dehn-Nix January 04, 2018 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I am having a hard time packing up my Christmas papers so I decided to do one more layout. I hate to see the holidays ending ... that means I have to go back to work. Anyway, I really wanted to scrap this photo of the extended Nix family taken on Christmas Eve. I normally snap candid shots at family gatherings, but my niece brought out a tripod so we gave a group shot a try. I think it turned out great! I decide to go for a BIG title for impact. I used my favorite Outline Alphas and backed them with a variety of different pattern papers.

You can see the FA LA LA LA LA tree tucked in behind the photo. I couldn't resist adding that since we are posing in front of the tree.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and used a piece of dark green pattern paper for my background. I really love how that title just pops against the green.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Holiday Cards Made Easy | Marcia Dehn-Nix December 20, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!  Marcia here today with some Holiday card ideas (in case you are like me and still making cards to mail). The Holiday Cards 2 JustNick Studio digital cut file makes cardmaking a breeze. Add a couple stickers and some twine or sequins and they are good to go.

Using some Kraft cardstock on this one gives it a masculine feel. It's perfect for my  brother.

Making cards is a great way to use up some of that stash you've been hoarding too. Aren't these penguins are the cutest!

14 Days of Giveaways - Day 10 | Marcia Dehn-Nix December 10, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!  Marcia here today for Day 10 of our 14 day FREE digital cut file giveaway! It's like Christmas (or Hanukkah, or maybe just Happy Holidays for you) everyday!

Today's FREE cut file is the Ho Ho Ho Strip and I thought it would be perfect to cut from heat transfer (iron-on) vinyl and create a festive holiday shirt for myself.

If you have never cut vinyl, you should definitely try it. The results are fabulous!! Don't worry, I will walk you through it.

Vinyl is cut with the right side facing down on the mat. (The back side is facing up.) That means, if you are cutting words, you need to flip them to their mirror image. Right click on the image and select Flip Horozontal. Resize your image to fit the shirt you want to apply it to. I sized mine so that it was 9" wide for a size L ladies t-shirt.

In the cutting window, select Cut and for material, select Vinyl (or Heat Transfer Material, or Reflective Heat Transfer). I used DecoSPARKLE Heat Transfer Holographic Vinyl. It is much thicker than regular iron on vinyl, so I increased my blade depth to 5. You want to cut through the vinyl but not the clear layer that is protecting the top of the vinyl. This is called a Kiss Cut. Play around with a small piece before cutting a large image. It helps to use a new blade and double cut.

Now we need to weed the unwanted parts away, leaving only the image cut on the protective plastic. Place the image on your shirt, centering it, and heat up your iron to the cotton setting. Different vinyl might recommend using a different setting. Be careful about your shirt selection! You do not want to use a shirt that will melt when you apply heat. When the iron is hot enough, apply even pressure on top of your image, moving the iron to make sure you are applying heat to the entire image. Let it cool for a minute, then try to peel the clear top layer away. If it is not peeling easily, replace the clear top layer, and iron some more.

Wash inside out and hang to dry to extend the life of your garment. I hope you give it a try.

Remember that Today's design - Ho Ho Ho Strip - is yours for FREE today only!

Just enter code: HOSTFREE  at checkout to get this design for free.

So Very Blessed | Marcia Dehn-Nix November 28, 2017 09:31

Hello JustNick Studio friends! For those in the USA, I hope you all had an awesome Thanksgiving.

It's Marcia here today with a November gratitude layout. Sometimes we need to step back and reflect on all the things we are so blessed to have, especially our loved ones. The Card Sentiment 3 digital cut file is great for creating a scrapbook title that says just that. Here is my layout...

I thought it would be fun to use the Cloud Background 2 digital cut file since my nephew seems to have his head in the clouds, lol. I saved the negative space clouds and used one on top of my photo to keep the cloud repetition going...

I felt like I still needed something to the right of my photo to balance out the clouds. I had a stem from the Stems digital cut file that I had previously cut out and it was just what I needed.

I love the mixed fonts in this cut file. They make this scrapbook title look so much more interesting.

Here are the digital cut files I used today...

Poogan's Porch | Marcia Dehn-Nix November 14, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a travel layout featuring one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina. Poogan's Porch was named after the owner's dog and is set in this old quaint house. The food is AMAZING!!! If you are looking for some down home Southern food and a charming setting, this is the place. For my layout, I wanted to use a cut file that reminded me of those beautiful decorative tin ceilings you find in old houses. The Quilted Circle Background was perfect.

Can you imagine that awesome design as a beautiful ceiling? Some of our favorite dishes we sampled were the Pimiento Cheese Fritters with Green Tomato Jam, the Macaroni and Cheese, and the Chicken and Waffles. Here are some detail shots...

Too Cute To Spook | Marcia Dehn-Nix October 24, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia back today to share an adorable Halloween layout with you. Since my dog likes to greet all the Trick or Treaters, I like to dress him up in costume too. The kids love it. Even kids who may be afraid of dogs are not so scared of him when he looks so funny. Seriously, there is nothing scary about my layout! Take a look.

I used the new Spider Web 2 digital cut file for that awesome web as well as the 31 digital cut file for my title and the cat die cut.

I turned my title into a layered die cut by creating a background shadow using the offset tool in Silhouette Studio. I love how it pops against the yellow ink on my background. The googly eyes add a nice touch of whimsy. You can create a whole new look, just by adding a shadow layer.

Welcome Fall | Marcia Dehn-Nix October 04, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with some Fall inspiration. I love everything about Fall; the cooler weather, the gorgeous leaves turning red, orange, and yellow, warm comfy sweaters, and pumpkin spice coffee. There are some awesome new cut files in the store to help you document your Fall memories. I used the Leaf Cluster 2 on this layout.

I backed the negative space behind the flower and the leaves with assorted pattern papers, making sure to get a good mix of red, orange and yellow. 6x6 paper pads are great for backing cut files with their smaller patterns. I love how pretty it turned out. It looks fabulous on my mixed media background. Here are a few detailed shots ...

I even made a YouTube Process Video for my layout. I would love to have you stop by and watch. If you like what you see, I would love for you to subscribe to my channel.

Happy Days | Marcia Dehn-Nix September 18, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends!

Marcia back today. I hope you all had a great weekend! All week at JustNick Studios we are going to showcase background cut files. I am kicking it off with the Hit Play Background. This cut file is so perfect for all your active subjects. I love how the triangles give the feeling of movement for my layout. Just what I needed for this shot of my son and one of our dogs crossing the Mississippi River at its source; Itasca.

I backed the triangle negative spaces with a variety of different pattern papers, then to make the triangle shape more definite, I outlined the edges with a black marker.

Here are some more detail pictures.

Here is the cut file I used today.

Life Is Amazing | Marcia Dehn-Nix September 08, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here with a layout to share with you today. I wanted to scrap a photo of my daughter and one of her best friends taken at the Duluth harbor. Unfortunately, this was a goodbye visit... her friend moved to Montana after graduating. These two took many adventures together and I know my daughter is going to miss her so much. I wanted to use this pattern paper from the Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary collection that is full of triangles. I trimmed my photo to fit inside one of the triangles. To add texture, I machine stitched around the edges of some of the triangles. Then, I found these awesome chipboard triangles from Creative Embellishments in my stash and painted them with a creamy ivory. These triangles helped add fabulous dimension to my layout. I also wanted an angular cut file to use at the bottom of my page, the Compressed Chevron Background digital cut file was perfect. Here is how my layout turned out.

The Life is Amazing digital cut file was perfect for my title.

I used both the positive and negative pieces of this chevron cut file, adding space between them to achieve this look.

and lots more detailed shots ... because I love this collection and cut files so much!!

Let's Go | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 25, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with more Back To School inspiration. I swear, I have the cutest, happiest nephew! Here he is showing off his new backpack.

I used 5 digital cut files to create this layout. The Broken Mirror Background cut file allowed me to use up some scraps filling in the negative space with different pattern papers.

To create movement on my layout, I wanted my title to go up one side of my photo and across the top. To connect the two, I modified the arrow from the All Boy digital cut file, making it much longer. This allowed me to fold it to fit around my photo. I used two different fonts for my title, the Type It Font and the OutLine Alphas. I love mixing fonts to create more interest in my titles.

To finish framing my photo, I tucked the Today File Folder underneath my photo

Here are the cut files I used today ...

I even have a process video for you.

Summer Lovin | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 09, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. It's circles week and since I actually had a beach vacation this year, I am showcasing the Beach Umbrella Background. When I think of beach umbrellas I think red and white. I used red cardstock when cutting out the beach umbrella background cut file and then cut circles out of white cardstock that were sized for the umbrellas in the background. I placed the whole thing on top of this cool water pattern paper.

I wanted to use 2 photos on my layout, but I didn't want to cover up too much of that awesome background cut file. I decided to create a flip book with washi tape, so the top photo can be flipped up to reveal my second photo.

That awesome title is from the Summer Lovin digital cut file. This cut file has lots of fun Summer titles.

To emphasize the circle patterns, I stitched around each circle. I love the texture that the machine stitching adds. The pattern paper I used came from the Carta Bella Beach Boardwalk collection. It's an older collection, but I love the primary colors and its vintage vibe. Since I only had a sticker sheet from the collection for embellishing, I pulled some wood veneer pieces and flair from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Hello Sunshine collection and added some Simple Stories brads and phrase stickers.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

I would love to have you watch my YouTube video if you are interested in seeing my process in creating this layout.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great rest of the week.

Rainbow Row | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 25, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. I've been working my way through some vacation photos from a trip to South Carolina this past May. If you love gardens and/or food, Charleston is a gem. Their are gorgeous homes with extensive gardens, window box planters, and flowering baskets and Charleston is a culinary hub. Oh my, did we eat some amazing meals there! After one such amazing meal, we needed to do some walking and headed toward Rainbow Row. These houses, each painted a different color, are one of the most photographed in the city.

On this layout, I combined the Outline Alphas and the Script Font to create a dramatic title. I wanted the letters to be tall, like these buildings, so I stretched the cut file. Then I backed the letters with some gorgeous multi-color floral paper from a Maggie Holmes Crate paper line.

I added a travel tag from the Around the World digital cut file and tucked it under the main photo.

Here are a few more detailed shots ...

I hope I have inspired you today to create a big title with lots of impact! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week.

YAY! | Marcia Dehn-Nix July 14, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia back today sharing a layout I created for my daughter Colette's graduation party. This spring she graduated from veterinary school!!! Her Dad and I are so proud of her. It was not an easy road and she studied her brains off. She is specializing in emergency vet medicine and just started a year long internship. There is just something that thrills her to be able to react to critical cases. Never a dull moment!

I wanted my layout to scream CELEBRATION so I gravitated to that Starburst digital cut file. I used the Simple Stories Grad collection and the pattern papers also had stars. Here is how my layout turned out...

I really love how that Starburst cut file turned out when cut from gold cardstock. I created a BIG title using the YAY! from the Card Sentiments 1 digital cut file. It was perfect to help capture the feelings from that big day.

I saved a few of those cut out stars and used them as embellishments. You can see a large star tucked under the tassel.

Here is one more detailed shot. I used some foam adhesive to adhere the YAY! title over the top of the stars. It really pops against the black background and the gold stars.

Here are the cut files I used today  ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!!

Dad and Sparky | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 23, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. All this week, in honor of Father's Day, we are showcasing masculine layouts. I thought I would scrap a photo of my Dad and his dog Sparky. These two are never far apart. Sparky was a rescue dog that certainly found his furever home when he caught our eye on a local pet adoption day. Scrapping a photo of my Dad means I can make use of that awesome new DAD digital cut file too. Here is my layout ...

Besides the Dad cut file, I add some XOXO dog tags from the In The Doghouse cut file and made use of some triangles left over when cutting the Triangle Geo Background cut file. I love the added interest the triangles give to my background ... and they coordinate really well with the black geometric pattern paper.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Enjoy your weekend!

Made In The USA | Marcia Dehn-Nix June 02, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends, Marcia here today. All this week JustNick designers have been showcasing layouts using PageMaps sketches created by the wonderful Becky Fleck. Here is the sketch she gave me...

It's awesome, right!

There is a lot going on in the sketch, so I decided to use the left side of the sketch for my background cut file. I recently returned from a vacation in South Carolina and had lots of pictures from Patriots Point, so I opted to do a patriotic layout. It seemed fitting with Memorial Day just this past Monday. My guys really enjoyed visiting the USS Yorktown. I think they could have stayed there for hours.  I stuck pretty close to the PageMaps sketch. I did use a larger focal photo in the middle. Here is my layout...

I used a cut file called Ride the Wave. I resized it to fit on the left half of my layout. It reminds me of the American flag waving in the wind. My intent was to leave it red and white, but then decided to add some blue in the negative space. Some machine stitching reinforces the wave design.

Here is the cut file I used today...

If you are interested in my process video, here it is ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. Be sure to check out the other sketches from this past week and their coordinating layouts.

My Science Guy May 18, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a scrappy confession. I've been very bad about scrapping layouts of my son. He doesn't like having his picture taken. He doesn't post selfies of himself all that often. It was quite evident that his sisters get lots more attention on my scrapbook pages when I was putting my latest layouts in albums. So for a little while I thought I would concentrate on scrapping the photos I do have of him. These were from Christmas a year and a half ago.

I used this awesome background called Weird Science. When I first saw it, I thought of these pictures I had of him receiving a bartender chemistry set for Christmas. He loves math and science. He is currently working his way through college as a bartender ... so of course he needed a bartender chemistry set.

I used the Simple Set Alphabet for my title. I like the whimsical feel to this font.

I backed the negative space with pattern papers from the Shimelle Little By Little collection. The circle patterns in the paper drew me in. I knew they would be perfect with all the circles in this background cut file, plus the primary colors are great for scrapping my science guy.

Here are the cut files I used today...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Friends Become Our Chosen Family May 06, 2017 11:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends. Happy National Scrapbook Day!

Marcia here today with some scrappy inspiration and a FREE cut file! I love using circle frames around my photos. Floral Ring 2 is a new digital cut file, so I thought I would use it to showcase a photo of my besties.

To add dimension to my layout, I layered some more flowers on top of the Floral Ring. These are from the Stems For Stephanie digital cut file.

I used one more cut file today. I just love this title, Friends Become Our Chosen Family. These wonderful women really are like family for me. They were neighbors but most have moved away, still we get together at least once a month.

Here the cut files I used today...

If you are interested in watching my process video, here it is ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. You can grab the FLORAL RING 2 cut file for free using the code: RINGFREE at checkout until midnight on May 7, 2017 only!

More free cut files are coming later today, so be sure to stop back.

Bubble Blowing Fun | Marcia Dehn-Nix April 20, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick friends! Marcia here today. I have an awesome layout to share today. This one has a photo of my daughter at 15. She had just learned how to blow bubbles with her bubble gum. Of course, after learning how, she was chewing gum and blowing bubbles all the time. I thought it would be fun to use lots of circles in my design to put the emphasis on the bubbles. I selected the Protozoa Background and selectively backed only a few of the circles.

I used a sheet of acetate to back my cut file. The acetate sheet had lots of colorful circles on it as well. I created my title by mixing the Outline Alpha  and the Script Font digital cut files. I backed the outline alpha letters with a marbled pattern paper that reminded me of bubble gum.

Here is a closer look...

I framed my photo with the Round and Round cut file, adding even more circles to my design.

Here are the cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to check out what's new in the JustNick store.
