SPOOKTACULAR SELFIE | Nathalie DeSousa October 30, 2018 07:00

Hi there!

Happy Halloween everyone!   Oh, how i miss the day my kids would dress up for the day, all the preparations, the make up and all the candy afterwards (well, there is still candy!!);  now that theya are teenagers all I am left with are sweet memories of Halloween's past.  So, i pulled a few pictures from a couple years ago to create this page using some of the new JustNick Studio cut files.

There are so many cut files to chose from, and it was so hard to pick one, that i decided to mix four cut files in one page.

I combined one of the Basic Heart cut file  images with the Spiderweb 2 background and Web cut files to create the cut out for this page.  I chose to cut it from black cardstock, so that it would stand out from the mixed media background (created with Jane Davenports Mermaid Markers).

Before setting the cut out on the page, a bit of white acrylic paint was rubbed on the cardstock, this gives the cut out that worn/antique look you see in the layout.

The pictures were sized so that they fit in between the two spiderwebs inside the heart, and then i used stickers and embellishments from a few Halloween collections (Simple Vintage Halloween from Simple Stories,  Pink Paislee's Spellcast and Pebbles' Midnight Haunting) to add some small details aroun the page.

For the title of this page, I chose the new Happy Halloween cut file to create the "SPOOKTACULAR" part of the title.  It was cut from black cardstock and then treated to a white acrylic paint wash.

Now it is time to go and set all the candy in bowls for us to share (well a bit of it, at least!).  Remember to stop by the JustNick Studio store to check all the cut files used here and all other beautiful designs.  You can always contact me if you have questions on how this all came together!

Have a safe and  Happy Halloween!!

Fun In The Sun | Marcia Dehn-Nix August 27, 2018 07:00 1 Comment

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today. Have you seen the new Fun In The Sun title in the on-line store? I wanted to combine it with the South Pacific Floral digital cut file, but not in the usual way. I busted out my Silhouette sketch pens and instead of cutting out the design, I sketched it instead. Then I dug out my watercolors and got busy adding some color to the sketched design. This gave me a gorgeous unique background that I could use to scrap some Waikiki Beach photos. Take a look at how my layout turned out...

I am by no means good when it comes to watercolors, but it's fun to play with them sometimes and I am happy with the results. I applied a layer of gesso over the top of the sketched design. This helps to blend the colors later. It muted the lines a little, but I like that it's soft. Here is a closer look...

I absolutely love the new Fun In The Sun title. I backed the middle with a blue watercolor pattern paper. I felt I needed to bring in a little more blue besides the blue in my photos.

I backed the alphas with a script pattern paper in white. I wanted to keep my layout bright and airy.

Here are the digital cut files I used today ...

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you will try using a sketch pen in your die cutting machine. It's really easy to do.

TOGETHER | Nathalie DeSousa April 18, 2018 07:00

Hello Friends and Fans!

It is Background week here at the Just Nick Studio blog! There are so many beautiful designs to chose from, but i think every layout that i have created lately carry my creative wish for Spring, which means, I used a lot of bright colors to create this page using a kind of "fallish" background from the store.

For this page, I shrunk the 12x12 Leaf background to fit at about 6x12 in.  I simply moved the limits of the lines so that the entire cut file fit the new size, and then cut it out of white cardstock.

While the cut file was being cut, I created the background using some VIcki Boutin acrylic paints and crayons.  But then decided to bring life to the white cardstock, and chose to apply a combination of gold and iridescent paste on top of the leaves.

To bring more of Spring to the page, i chose Maggie Holmes Flourish collection, and added a few of the IN BLOOM die cut images to back some of the large floral ephemera pieces.   A bit of vellum was used to back these florals which add to the softness of the page.

All the florals encase a picture of my sisters with my kids and my niece and nephew.   I just added a few embellishments and a title to this page, and call it done!

Just loved the final look of the page.   The die cuts are nicely accented by the colorful background and ephemera pieces.   Now if only Spring would show up!!

Remember to stop  by the JustNick Studio store to check these and the many new cut files available,

As always let me know if you have questions on how this came together.

See you all soon!

FALL | Nathalie DeSousa October 10, 2017 07:00

Hello there!

Happy Fall Y'all!  and to all our Canadian friends, I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving weekend.

Nathalie here today with a bit more Fall inspiration.  What can I say,  it is my most favorite season of the year, there is so much to love about it!    This time i pour some of my joy for the season into this layout that documents my kids on last year's Thanksgiving walk.

Fall is all about color, and changes in nature, so what best that to recreate some of those fallen leaves using the Leaf Cluster cut file - one of my favorite cut files from the store -.

For this page, I used two cut outs created from the Leaf Cluster cut file in different sizes.  First, I used some Prima Watercolor (Decadent Pies palette) to add quite a bit of color to the background.  While it dried, I backed the cut out with papers from Bella Blvd.  Gratitude Documented collection.   Then just attached the cut outs to the page with some strong adhesive.

For the title of this page, I used the new "I Like Fall" cut file to cut just the word Fall from the design.   An offset was all I used to create the stitching of the title.  A bit of watercolor completes the look  of the title, and makes it pop from the page.

Love how easily this page came together.    The colors that back the cut outs bring out the details in the background and in the beautiful cut file design.   So stop by the Just Nick store to check the designs used in this page, and all the new designs available.   Remember i am just a comment away if you have questions on how this came together.

See you all around!!!
