JustNick has been coming out with some gorgeous new cut files!  I decided to combine a new background and a new flower cut file to create my Traveler's Notebook spread today.

I used the new Basketweave Background 2 and Botanical Flower Cluster 1 to create light layers on the left, full-size of my notebook.

A great way to use Background cut files in your Traveler's Notebook is either to use as is for your entire background or in this case, trim it down and add where you want it!  I first started with a solid pattern paper background for my left side.  Next, I selected a second pattern paper that would complement and give contrast to my background to use for my two cut files.  I used the multi-colored side of the paper (which had florals) for the Basketweave Background 2, trimming it and then stitching it to the top.  Then I used the more solid side of that same pattern paper for the Botanical Flower Cluster 1, turning it lengthwise.

The intricate look of both of these cut files were a perfect way to cluster photos and embellishments under and above them.  I trimmed the bottom of the pattern paper I used for the cut files to stitch next to the Botanical Flower Cluster 1 to tie it together even more.  Keeping the spread light, with a whimsical look, I turned the smaller photo at an angle and stapled it.  I kept with this playfulness by adhering my stickers for my title at the bottom in different directions, but used black and white which didn't take away from the spread and also balanced with the black and white on the right side.

For my right side, I used two 3x4 pockets with a photo at the top in black and white.  The whitespace on my photo, was another perfect spot to trim and adhere another portion of the Basketweave Background 2, and then layered more embellishment over it.

My bottom 3x4 card was for my journaling with another added embellishment in black and white and stamping the date.

Using cut files, especially background cut files, as is, is always beautiful, but hope this inspires you to try this idea again or try it for the first time for your next project.  Really adds texture, color and layers to your spread and your photos!
