Poogan's Porch | Marcia Dehn-Nix November 14, 2017 07:00

Hello JustNick Studio friends!

Marcia here today with a travel layout featuring one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina. Poogan's Porch was named after the owner's dog and is set in this old quaint house. The food is AMAZING!!! If you are looking for some down home Southern food and a charming setting, this is the place. For my layout, I wanted to use a cut file that reminded me of those beautiful decorative tin ceilings you find in old houses. The Quilted Circle Background was perfect.

Can you imagine that awesome design as a beautiful ceiling? Some of our favorite dishes we sampled were the Pimiento Cheese Fritters with Green Tomato Jam, the Macaroni and Cheese, and the Chicken and Waffles. Here are some detail shots...

Here is the cut file I used today ...

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have a great week.

Hi cut file fans -

I hope you had a great week so far and are looking forward to the weekend and some crafty time - hopefully!

Today my task was to use any design from the store - not that hard right?! You think!

When you have access to all these amazingly beautiful files you have a hard time choosing, believe me. Then, once I found the design I wanted to use, the next question was to just cut it and back it or stitch it.

In the end I defintely wanted to use my Felicity Jane Emeline kit to go along with my picture and knew I would just back my cut file with all the different papers from the kit.

I just love the look of Quilts on layouts and why not use a cut file to achieve that look whitout all the cutting of fiedly tiedly small itty bitty pieces and then all the sewing.

The Quilted Circle Background was just perfect and easy - I modified it in the way, that it didn't cut my entire background, because if you know my crafting you may also be aware that I like my white space ;) Therefore I only let two rows of the Quilt and backed those with all the papers :)

First I started with the inner pieces of the circle and worked my way out. All there was left to do was to embellish around my picture and this layout was done!

Easy peasy - so go ahead and try to achieve a Quilt look for your next layout using a cut file ;)

Have a great day and onto the next time -

xx Laureen

Love You Bunches and Hello Cards August 15, 2016 07:00

Hello there!

I'm so happy to be sharing a couple of cards with you all today! Most cut files seem to be scaled for layouts... and I say, "Not so!" Shrink those cut files! And as Tim Gunn from Project Runway always says, "Make it work!"

First, I have this lovely to share...

I used two cut files for this card. First, I sliced and shrunk the Quilted Circle background and used it as a layer for the base. I saw the flowers in the Floral and Fauna cut file collection and knew I wanted to use a couple to layer.

I think it worked perfectly! Also, sequins are not my go to but, how easy and fun they were to cluster at the center of that flower!

Here is the next card...

Before I forget, I'm using the Happy Place collection from Fancy Pants Designs. So fun!

Okay, for this next card I utilized another background cut file. I went white on white and layered a piece of patterned paper between. I like how the paper peeks just a little bit behind the cut file. It creates a fun movement for this card and doesn't take away from the overall design.

And that's a wrap!

Thanks for swinging by today! Now, go shrink those cut files and make some cards!
