Lately, I've noticed that so many projects focus on the perfect photo - correct lighting, in focus, etc. - yet so many of the pictures I have are the exact opposite. They are grainy, out of focus, the lens isn't open all the way . . . you get the picture (literally).
After my uncle pass away a couple of years ago, I found this photo of him and my aunt in their younger years that I had never seen. By all accounts, the photo is awful. However, all I could see was this rare glimpse of them as young newlyweds who absolutely adored one another. How could I not scrapbook it?
This week the team is focusing on background files, which happen to be my favorite. I decided on the Frilly Floral Background with this lovely vellum paper from Studio Calico.
To give the layout dimension, I used the negatives from the cut and added them to the centers of three flowers. These are held down by wood/jewel brads by Jillibean Soup.
I used a few of the tear strips from Studio Calico patterned papers and wrapped them around the photo. The paper straws were next and they are from Target.
The journaling was created in Word and then printed.
Last is the title, which uses SC chipboard letters and metal embellishment with wood Thickers.
This photo holds so many emotions for me and I felt it needed to be preserved.
Thank you so much for stopping by today! Please visit the JustNick Shop for this and many other wonderful cut files as well as loads of inspiration from the design team.
Enjoy The Moment | Nathalie DeSousa March 20, 2018 07:00
Hello Friends and Fans!
Nathalie with you today bringing you a bit of Spring ( trust me we have seen too much snow and cold here in Canada) to your day. There are so many new designs available in the Just Nick Studio store, that it was so easy to create this page.
Since i wanted to break from all the snow, i chose to use vanilla cardstock as the base for this page. Next I used the Pretty Pinwheels background to create the background of this page. All the pinwheels were backed using papers from Studio Calico's Bookmarked kit (March 2018), and a bit of foam adhesive.
Before adding the background to the page, a little bit of Vicki Boutin's art crayon was added around the placement of the picture. Then the piece of the background was attached on a bit of a slant so that there is a bit of movement to the page.
To decorate the picture, i added a few elements from the kit, and a few fussy cut floral motifs from one of the papers included in the kit (I love them!). Then just added a few lines of journal at the bottom of the picture.
The title of this page was created using the Enjoy The Moment cut file and a few of the kit's papers. The two cut outs were glued together with a bit of an offset, and then propped on the page with some foam adhesive. Just a few drops of gold ink, and a few fussy cut butterflies finish this page.
I love how this page turned out, and how easy it was to put together using a few of the store's cut files. Stop by the Just Nick Studio store to check the weekly new designs and all the previous ones, too. As always let me know if you have questions on how this came together.
Winter Wonderland | Laureen Wagener January 3, 2018 07:00
Hi everyone and Happy New Year!
I hope you had a few fun days and celebrated the arrival of the new year safe and sound!
Today I get to share my first layout of the new year and it is a winter themed one, that I am IN LOVE with!
I already told you about our seasonal layout frame that I create layouts for every couple month and for this seasonal frame I made a new layout.
I used the beautiful Snowflake cut files from the shop and cut them out of frosty blueish papers. I also printed a large DIN A4 photo that I took when it snowed like crazy in December.
The snowflakes cut out beautifully and make such a nice border around my picture and frame it.
I stitched around the entire photo to secure the snowflakes and give it a nice finishing touch!
Have a great day,

Nathalie here with a new project filled with Christmas spirit. I just love this time of the year, it seems like my home becomes cozier as we approach Christmas. With that in mind, I created a project all about my baby and his favorite spot during the holidays.
As you can see our baby loves to nap in front or under the Christmas tree! So what better way to document this picture than to create a background filled with Christmas trees.
The Christmas tree background was created using the Fold a Tree cut file and some white cardstock. The cut was sized to about 8.5x11 in and most of the free spaces were backed with papers from the Studio Calico's Northern Light kit.
The cut out was then hand stitched to the background paper. To add more texture and interest to the page, a few stitches were used to secure the folded piece to the mat in some of the background trees.
To frame the picture of our baby, the rectangular frame image from the Infinity Hearts was cut form wood grain white cardstock. A bit of embroidery thread was looped along some of the edges of the frame to add texture to the page.
The title of this page was created using the Script Font cut file. The word "Peace" was welded together, and then cut twice from one of the papers from the Studio Calico's Northern Lights kit. A bit of foam adhesive pops the title from the page.
I love the end result of this page. The non-traditional colors combined with all the cut files and hand stitching complement the picture of our baby peacefully sleeping under the Christmas Tree.
Remember to stop by Just Nick Studio Store to check all the cut files used in this project, and all the new designs being added to the store. If you have questions on how this came together, do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a blessed Christmas!

Hi friends -
Laureen here and I am excited to be back to share a new layout with you!
I am still in complete fall mode and decided to scrap a picture from my first vacation last year after my therapy. We are laying on the beach but it was fall, so the cut file I chose works - because leaves and fall always work - right?!
I recently received the gorgoeus Gypsy Moon Scrapbook kit from Studio Calico and haven't had the guts to cut into the beautiful papers. So I decided to be strong and let my Silhouette cut into one of the papers - because the Leaf wreath cut file is just so gorgoeus and totally works great with the paper!
My main focus for this layout is the big journaling block in the middle. I don't have a wide format printer, so I needed to make it work and printed on A4 paper, then cut it out and stitched it down on my 12x12 piece of cardstock.
The wreath fits perfectly around it and still gives little peaks of the stitching details from underneath.
I also used a couple of the embellishments from the Gypsy Moon kit, like the die cut leaves, the word phrase stickers and the cork arrows.
I hope you enjoyed todays post!
